In state tuition? HELP!

Alright fellow skiers. As my name might suggest I currently live in MN. Right now I am at a junior college but  one year from now I would love nothing less than to be living in Utah where you actually have mtns haha. (and real snow)

My question is have any of you NSers gained in state tuition status after moving from another state? If so how hard is it? could you give me the run down please. Im in the process of weighing a couple of different options and knowing what it takes to get in state tuition would be super helpful in making those decisions.

Thanks for any help you guys could offer.

I got it in Utah pretty easy. You have to live here for 1 year to get it and when you file your taxes on the year you want to get residency you have to file them as an independent.  It doesn't really mean anything except that you parents don't claim you as a dependent.  A misconception is that you have to be totally independent from your parents which would mean you cant get health insurance or support from them but that isn't true.  I still have insurance and everything else i had through my parents.  Utah just wants to make sure your paying your taxes to this state and not the state your parents live in.

You also have to get like a Utah license and/or register your car in Utah which is a pretty simple task.  Once you get in state, tuittion is mad cheap here. Like 2500 a semester at the U.

the fact that i could still be on my parents health insurance, stuff like that helps out so much.

2500 is super super cheap too. im paying that much for 15 credits a semester now at my junior college..
