High school help =(

Tomorrow i go to my first day in public high school. i will be a sophmore (my old school goes up to grade 9. yeah its weird). anyway private school was very sheltered. i had 22 kids in my grade all of whom were nice and we were all really close.

      Now i'm being dumped into a school with 1100 kids in it. I know absolutely nobody that goes there. I cant help but think high school is going to be like that movie mean girls. What am i supposed to do about lunch too? I know I cant exactly go and sit down with people and everyone has theyre own table that "outsiders arent allowed to sit at". Im not even sure how to approach people. Im a bit of a social retard too. Im pretty nervous. Does anyone have any advice before I go tomorrow?

Just make friends, its not that hard. Growing up you will run into this tons. Nobody will be there to hold your hand. Ive moved 4 times, gone to 5 new schools and I turned out just fine.

if you wanna meet people you can play a sport and if you anit good at sports find out which sport is the biggest joke so you dont gotta be good to make it

play it easy.

dont talk to only people with breasts. Make sure you talk to guys also. Trust me... it will help you down the road when it comes to meeting girls. Avoid that friend zone.

Best advice. I went to private school till 9th grade then transferred to the local hs too. I knew a few kids coming in from my neighborhood and youth sports but the best way to get to know people is to play a fall sport. I played football and got to know all the kids really fast.

If you don't play any sports I suggest trying football as it's pretty easy to pick up and there are lots of people who start in high school and aren't very good. You won't be alone skill wise and the teams are generally pretty big. Good for getting in shape for ski season too if thats your thing.

I did the exact same thing.  I went to private school for 8 years then switched to high school as a sophomore.  The key is just to have confidence on the first day and find a group of people at lunch or something that looks like they would be receptive of a new kid. 

Its incredibly easy to pick out the table of snobs so just avoid that and you should be fine.  The first week will definitely be the hardest but after that you'll be completely fine.

wow i feel really lucky now. I have known basically everyone since i was 5 years old and will share my entire school career with them. We have 60 kids in my grade and we are all good friends. I prefer small schools but just make friends. Just don't be weird and you will be fine

I moved highschools 3 times.  Its actually kinda dope moving to new high school.   All new bitches.   But anyway, just hang low for a couple days till you meet someone cool and, use them to meet other cool people.  People will talk to you.  The people that talk to you will depend on you.    Act like a douche, and douches will come to you.  Act like a confident normal, good to know dude, then you will get normal good to know people.

You'll be fine dood. I was in the same situation as you going into highschool. If you want to meet new friends super bad go join a sport or a club. As for lunch go grab your shit, eat it, and than go in the library and play gnarshmellow until you meet more kids to sit with. Also, there are gonna be other kids in the same situation as you.

Completely re-invent yourself into somebody totally awesome because no one from that school knows you.  Or join the football team or something, or like a school club I guess.  If you join show choir its a really good way to meet chicks, if you are into singing and dancing i guess.  Lunchtime isn't anything like mean girls at all, but my school was mostly outside so you sort of just sat wherever you wanted.  Just don't be a bitch.

most sports have already started with preseason before school, but if you can find a sports club or something that is just starting up at the beginning of school. Beware of some lame kids (most of the clubs are filled with only them, so just check it out) but you should be fine. Good Luck man!

yeah man i made the switch from private to public school ophmore year, and it is a whole lot better, just be chill and talk to kids in your classes get to know people.   JUst dont be super nervous just chill out.

You'll be fine.  Everyone finds there place in high school.  Everyone.  Doesn't matter if your weird or awkward or anything, mad people are gunna go up to you and ask like where your from and if you play sports and a whole bunch of shit.  New people are really exciting because generally in most high schools its the same people you see every year so someone new is cool.

Just be chill and crack jokes.  Talk about sports and be like "this class is gunna suck" "this teacher is a bitch", etc.  Talk about the stuff you have in common with people and ask questions, "are there any hot girls in this school?" "Are there any parties in this town?" "you play any sports" "is our football team any good" "do people go to the games" etc.

Go up to some hot girls in between periods and ask them where something is.  "Excuse me, do you know where the cafetaria is I have lunch 6th period and I have no clue how to get there."  If they're not bitches they will explain it to you and then just act confused again and make sure you say something like "oh yea I'm new to this school my name is Jason" Shake their hand.  They will say "my name is ashley" "nice to meet you" her friends, not wanting to be left out will also be excited to meet you and shake each of their hands and try to remember their names.

Always shake peoples hands when you interact with them, say I'm new here my name is ___, its nice to meet you.  Always say goodbye.  "Hey thanks for the help, I gotta go now I'll see you later"  Next time you see a person you met, say hi, adress them by name (if you remember), ask them whatsup.

 A good thing to do is to bring up past interactions with people.  Like I was talking to this kid John and he said this teachers a bitch. Or do you know if this girl ashley has a boyfriend shes fucking hot.  By doing this people will assume your sociable, knowledgeable, and cool enough to be talking to a hot girl.  Even if you said dumb shit to ashley and stuttered and she thought you were a loser, in the eyes of another person that conversation will make you look cool. 

By the time you meet a lot of people, people will talk about you and more and more people will want to meet you, befriend you, including girls. Jea I'm bored, good luck/have fun wear a condrum.

That would suck.  Statistically out of 60, there has got to be like 15 max, thats assuming the class is half chicks and half of them are hot (which wouldn't happen).  Ok so if I'm stuck my entire childhood with 15 hot chicks, I'm getting with 10-12 of them, 3 won't like me.  Well probably more than three won't like me but thats what alcohol does for you.  After hooking up with said chicks, probably half won't like me after. I figure I date half of them and my ex girlfriends always like me and we hook up randomly later, and then all the ones I don't date will probably end up hating me, thats what happens. So that leaves only 5-6 women to hook up with for all of highschool, and thats assuming that where you live, half of women are attractive.

How would you do it?

honestly, you'll be fine. i would assume that at least one person in one of your classes will talk to you, and you'll probably be able to sit with someone at lunch. they might stab you though, i'm really not sure.

i was in the same shows as you, coming from a private high school which i went to for a year, first year of public high school, like 550 kids a grade, and was pretty nervous just because i didnt want to be a loner, but it really wasnt that bad. granted i was a loner, but i met some cool kids at lunch and on my xc team, and it was a lot better then i expected, i bet yours was today, i didnt see the date this was posted, and if its tomorow, good luck, and if it was today, hope you had fun!

dont stress act relaxed and confident in your self. remember evry one is new there also so it may be weird the first couple days but after that its fine. i had no friends in my gym class at the beginning of the year now i have tons. just dont be a stuck up fool. if you have a weird habbit like picking yours nose and eatiing it. just dont do it. And always smell good. no body wants to be friends with a kid that stiks like hardcore body odur. trust me u will make many new friends and have ALOT of fun.

Dude, you will be totally fine.  I transferred schools so I knew some kids, but I didn't know most.  I have made some awesome friends and it is super fun.  Everyone I know that transferred from a private school in my town to a public school says you cannot compare the two, public schools are way better.  If I said anything more it would just be what everyone else said.  Have fun man.

All about confidence kid. Be well spoken, sociable, outgoing, don't mumble and shit.. You are going to have to initiate most of the conversation, so don't be afraid of introducing yourself and talking to people. You'll do fine.

This sounds stupid but maybe carrying extra pencils, gum and whatever could help. If you hear someone asking for something just offer it and then that person will at least know you exist and it would be far less awkward trying to strike up conversations with classmates and befriending them. You should probably try sitting not in corners by yourself in class so that you can at least be near other people to get to know. I am sure its a scary position at first but you will meet people and then you will laugh at how scared you were down the road.

I almost wish I was in your position, that sounds fun. Just be confident, talk to people, and have fun. The first day may be a bit awkward in a week you will be fine. Hopefully you will  meet some cool new kids, it's good to get out of sheltered life and start living normally.

Dude just be yourself don't expect what you do its way different join some clubs sports? say fuck off to the dicks also if you chief buds that union of people are usually pretty friendly but my biggest advice would be just be friendly meet new people and most of all be yourself!

yeahhhh dude. you'll be fine i go to amherst high and they're pretty similar. a bunch of stoners, gangsters,  hippies, ya know your regular mix of kids. you'll find people there everyone is really nice.

I switched senior year of high school from a private to a public school. it was for sure a little intimidating. however, you gotta put yourself out there. don't be shy. people aren't gonna come up to you, you gotta come up to them. just don't be afraid of what others think of you and be your self. be as outgoing as possible and be glad your in a new environment! its helps down the road your social skills will greatly improve

Damn, high school was a long time ago, I hardly even remember it.

Come in with a bit of confidence- courtesy and a smile go a long ways.

The lunch table- hmmm, I guess the best way to find a place is simply to ask, " Is this seat taken, and may I eat here?"

You don't get to know people overnight, or even in a week, but I think you simply need to come in with the expectation that you are a stranger to them, just as they are strangers to you. Relax and try to enjoy yourself.
