What does the plastic half moon piece do thats on the heel and can they be used if one is missing?

its pretty necessary. its what your boot rests on. if your desperate then you might be able to get away with grinding the screws down to the appropriate length and not using it. i dont recommend it though.

you do need that piece.  Call warranty and have them send you a new one. 435-252-3300 extension warranty/repair.
