Japan, Hokkaido

This winter we've decided to go to japan.
I know nothing about the country except for what I've seen in ski movies, that it dumps there. After reading a bit we've figured Hokkaido seems like a nice area.

Has anyone been there or better lived/live there?

I want to know about the resorts with the sick terrain, snow and no crowds.. any tips?

I've lived there and it's sick! I lived 10 minutes from the resort called Vankei (they pronounce it Bankei) so I only skied there, but I'm sure everywhere else is awsome.

niseko is sick ive been there 3 times but its getitng too popular and is packed with australian people. Ive also been to hakuba which is near nagano but it had its worst year in 47 years but it was still awsome

We're thinking Niseko after wathcing some nimbus. But crowded you say? how crowded and when is there least people?

Also we're going the first weeks of january, what are the conditions and crowds like then?
