Anybody carry a gun?

I've been debating whether or not to make this thread for a while now... I'm not looking for any rants about whether or not anyone here feels that it's moral or immoral to carry a weapon, just kind of asking around to see if anyone on this site does so, and maybe a short explanation why. NO FLAME, NO dueschbaggery...

what is going to become my 21st bday present...  oh yeah.  doubt ill carry it though.  just keep it on my bookshelf or some shit.....

next summer, im gonna try and get a Model 12 Winchester 20 Gauge...  my dad has the 12 gauge version, a browning double barrel 20 gauge, and a Mossberg sawn off 20 gauge...  i want my own shotgun.

So you agree with someone's statement that guns are for pussies but  you would carry brass knuckles? hahahah oh man.  Brass knuckles means you can't fight, so you'd have to fight unfairly with fists.  A gun is protection that can only be used in a self defense situation where you are forced to defend your life.

i havent told you the entire story. where i take the bus home there are always swarmings where 3+ arabs or somalians will beat up one person and steal all your shit. now i dont know about you but i cant beat up 3 people at once, i'm not going to stab anyone because i dont want to kill anyone and im not going to shoot someone because, i dont want to kill anyone. lets say one person comes up to me asks for my money i try and avoid it, and say i dont have any but if he keeps coming i say o here it is, slide the brass knuckles on and one punch him. gun vs 3  unarmed guys your a pussy, brass knuckles vs 3  unarmed guys you still have to know how to fight

well i lived in oregon for a year, just got back to Norway this july.

And i honestly don't see what you guys need your guns for. What are you gonna protect yourself from? Angry people with guns? If you had a law against them, those people (at least most of them) wouldn't have them either.

I can see you want them for hunting and that kind of stuff, but carrying a gun on you on a every day basis seems pretty damn stupid to me.

yah, washington DC had a handgun ban that pretty much prevented you from even having a gun IN YOUR HOUSE to protect yourself from burglars, and for decades DC had one of the highest gun crime/murder rates per capita in the country...so just because law abiding citizens werent able to have them didnt mean the gangsters and muggers wouldnt bring them in and use them on people

and Ben, dude, it was a quote from southpark...yah, quoting tv shows is gay, but im not a redneck or anything, so why dont you freak out a little more?

obviously it wouldnt work in the case of something like just dc, where you can just carry it across state lines. but if you look at someplace like england, they have a ban on handguns across the country, and far less gun deaths.

I like your post, but I think you're missing the point of carrying a firearm and that is to defend your life in a situation where it's live or die.  It has nothing to do with being the hero who stops some bank heist because he had a gun on him.  Too many people form opinions on guns because of tv and movies.

yah but that's an almost impossible model to follow...theyre an island, and they control pretty much every means by which anyone could get guns into their country...we've got mexico down south and canada to the north, obviously one would be a greater thread from an illegal gun trafficking standpoint, but the point is it would be pretty much impossible to keep guns out of here, a gun ban would just make the black market for illegal guns in this country blow up even bigger

oh, and as far as england goes, yah, there isnt much gun crime, youre right...but theyve got just about the worst violent crime rate involving KNIVES in the world, they just traded one evil for another

personally, id rather get shot than have my stomach sliced open

still on that trip?  youll grow out of wanting to lug around a big ol 45 in about 5 years.

and plus, a kimber for a carry gun?  no doubt they are pretty guns, but say you are forced to use it.  the police are going to take it from you (rendering you now defenseless) and if youre lucky after the trial, youll get the slide and barrel back from your $1000 investment.  if youre going to carry, carry something basic, and have another one at home.

when you (legally) purchase a handgun you check off the boxes that you aren't a crazy drug abuser about to commit mass murder.  yet to concealed carry in washington state you just go get a background check, and get a license.  i do think that taking a defense handgun class should be a requirement to concealed carry, because in everyone ive taken they go thru tactics as well as legal implications of your actions.

im pretty sure more people in america die/get injured from cars each year than firearms.  yet you only take your drivers test once, and never ever have to prove your competence again to keep driving.

#1 and #2 killers in america: heart disease and cancer.  want to save the most lives?  cure cancer.

well heres my thinking. number one, i dont really think that them being an island makes it THAT much more difficult to sneak things in. its not an island like hawaii out in the middle of nowhere, you can ride the train there through the chunnel. its not as isolated as you think.


as for the knives, well i think you would agree that generally speaking knives are considerably less deadly that guns.


this isnt to say that im necessarily for a full on ban of handguns in america, im just pointing out the merits of it.

knife wounds can be fucking awful...way worse than bullet wounds sometimes, depending on the kind of bullet

i havent looked anything up, but anyone want to find me a knife crime murder rate for greater london? im willing to bet it matches up pretty well with the gun crime/murder rate of greater Manhattan

my point being there's no perfect answer to this debate, amigo

yea i carry.  not all the time, but when im going hiking/camping/wheelin i will carry.  i put it in my truck on long drives or grab the shotgun and rifle.  I usually have it loaded in my room at my house as well.   I dont feel the need to carry all the time but i do like having it.  oh and for the record my pistol is a .22mag.   im not some doucher carrying around my glock9mm and thinking im thug.
