no idea.. some people here are very anti gun, like.. as in guns are bad and should be illegal.. you never know, nah mean?
ill probably carry the gun once i get it.. you know, to and from places like my house to the gravel pit to shoot. and back... with a coffee stop along the way.
Your points are good and all, but I think a person should have to go through a psychiatric evaluation before they can have a hand cannon. Ya it would take longer and everything, but there are still some people who have no criminal records but who are ticking time bombs.
Where I live guns are illegal, and no one ever gets shot maybe once a month theres a shooting in some sketchy ass neighbourhood but what im trying to say is you eliminate guns, you eliminate almost all gun related problems. What is a gun meant for besides killing?
Coming from a country without a serious gun culture i've been amazed by the responses in this thread. Private citizens carrying concealed weapons around in day to day life is absolutely rediculous. There is no justification, no "right" and should be no NEED to carry a hand gun around the streets. You should be spending the money you spend on firearms to protect yourself to solve the social problems that cause the feeling of insecurity.
Having handguns for sport/hunting is fine. These are legtimate reasons to have one, and only licensed members of sporting/hunting gun clubs should be able to own them. Don't get me started on assult wepons.
I don't know your constitutional history. Where did this "right to bear arms" come from?
2nd amendment... meaning the Bill of Rights. 10 amendments to the constitution that can never be revoked (at least i think)... like Freedom of Speech, Religion, right to congregate and shit....
did this help a little...
oh ok. Does it seem a bit weird that in a time that everything about society is changing a set of laws that govern your society can never be changed? I'm probably being ignorant so i apologise if i get any of this wrong but your constitution was written what, like 200 years ago? more? less? back then a gun took 2 years to reload and were pretty aim to aim properly. The police station was 2 hours horse ride away? so yeah that seems like a pretty reasonable thing. Being able to defend your property/family meant having a weapon available.
But now you call the police without even pressing a button on your mobile phone and an assult rifle/ automatic hand gun can empty a magazine in seconds. It would be reasonable, nay logical, to assume that maybe the laws surrounding possesion and what typre of firearms need to be reviewed.
In Australia we have very different laws, a guy killed a bunch of people with an assult rifle 10 years ago and the government decided, rightly, the review the law. Now their illegal. And rightly so. Why does this not happen in America? The school shootings that seem the be getting more frequent, people shooiting other people at work. Everytime these are reported in our country the editorials bemoan the lack of judicial review.
Now i'm not anti-gun. I've shot them, my dad had a rifle for awhile. I've been hunting. These are legitimate purposes for gun ownership. But to carry a handgun on the street "just cuz i can" it rediculous.
yeah, thats idiotic... and to an extent the assault rifle thing is kinda dumb but the problem i have with banning them is that you can go, buy an AK at a gun shop, and its single fire... not automatic.... and my dad currently owns guns that have a higher caliber than the AK. the AK has a 7.62mm bullet... my dad owns a .300 magnum rifle that shoots a bullet the same size but its not illegal. he has a .44 magnum revolver that shoots a round much bigger than the AK shoots....
i guess cause i grew up around guns, began using them when i was 8, and know the history and sizes of the guns i feel so much more comfortable around them and cant really understand the idea behind banning them... BUT, as with anything, douchebag people fuck up the reputation of them. thats just me and my, some would call (*COUGH*BEN DREW*COUGH*) say im a dirty hillbilly redneck whose family owns too many guns and should not be allowed in country.
i respect the right of people to own a firearm. My argument with assult weapons is more the amount a shots they can fire not so much the calibre. Hitting a moving target a 10 meters is a lot harder than people think, so to reduce the number of shots the weapon can fire makes it "safer" within the realms of society.
If its for home protection you should get a shotty. Covers the whole hallway and wont go through multiple walls possibly hitting an innocent. plus no waitin period. Take the plug out and you can get 7-10 round in there...load the first shell with rocksalt as a warnin
I'm with you man. Id rather have one than not incase some punk kid thinks he is tough.
Also when im with my gf at night
dude, DC gun ban got overturned, you can have a gun in your apartment now...it happened like a year ago
rifles and shotguns if youre 18, pistols if youre 21
now head to the gun store
sorry for the double post, but i feel like we should just ignore all the holier-than-thou people from OZ or the EU in this thread since they all live in borderline socialist countries that dont afford their citizens nearly as many great freedoms as we have in the US, and naturally have a tendency to blindly bash us for living our lives in accordance with the laws that govern us
the right to bear arms hearkens back to the inception of our great democracy, when colonial subjects of the bloody red coats rose up against their British oppressors and began the process of removing them by force with muskets. thus, when the constitution was undergoing its first series of revisions, it was deemed appropriate to install a clause allowing normal citizens to carry guns to protect themselves FROM THE GOVERNMENT if it went rogue, or from anybody else who might want to do them bodily harm.
by the way, i understand where youre coming from because your country has a reactionary government that's worse than ours, but taking everyone's rifles away because one guy went crazy isnt the answer...
if even one of those people at Port Arthur had been carrying a pistol, that dude wouldn't have gotten very far...
