Im a senior in highschool this year and last spring me n my brother took a road trip to whistler and stoped at wwu, i loved it, bellingham is really cool. I was just wondering if there are any newschoolers there. I really want to go there but im in oregon and going out of state is soo expensive. Whats it like there i know the school is small, whats the party scene like. What about student passes to baker, how much.  I dont really know what i want to study, maybe something in engineering, so what programs are really good there.

I was looking at going to Uni of Idaho and I'm in Washington. but they have this program where you can get tuition that is really close to instate pricing. the program is called western agreement exchange or something like that.... look into it. it will save you loads. i was told if you have a 3.5 or higher gpa you automatically get accepted.

example, U of I is like 5grand for instate, out of state with the echange is about 8 grand.

wwu is full of NS'ers and the type that would but are to broke buying weed.
An ok school. Some decent programs.

i have several friends who go there and who are planning on going there after gap year. I can't answer any of your questions so i'm not really sure why i'm replying to this, but I'm sure just browsing around the WWU website would help. Bellingham is an amazing place and it's a quality school. They get some awesome concerts and being able to ski baker would be sick. Good luck.

startin junior year in a month. so far its been a really sick school and town. there are a lot of parties around town theres no greek row though so a lot of times theyre smaller unless u go out into the county. baker pass is 600 including tax. the ski community up in bham is pretty sick tho. its usually pretty easy for bums like me to find rides up to baker. and you can always hitch.

i live near the smith road west of the guide...  and it takes me about an hour and a half...  western could be a little longer, not sure.

and the 600 is worth it if you want to go like every weekend.

i was under the impression that it was only like 45 minutes from campus. And there has got to be a bus that goes from the campus.

i have family in bellingham and i have a couple friends going there. its a really awesome place.

and the program the kid somewhere above was talking about is WUE, basically you pay instate tuition like you would in oregon but you could go to washington for school. look into it and maybe both schools are participants and it will save you a chunk of change.

So
1. How hard is it to get into? I have a 3.0 accumulative, 100 hours community service, idk my sat scores yet (haven't taken them yet) and I have worked a job for about a year now.
2. Distance from local mountains? (baker and any other ones)
3. Is the campus/town cool?
4. People?
5. Party Scene?
6. Whats it like trying to find a job?

1. I have heard it can be hard to get into but I never applied there.

2. The only local mountain IS Baker. Just a little over an hour depending how much you are willing to break the speed limit on the way up.

3. Campus is set up nice from the couple times I have been there, I PERSONALLY am not a huge fan of Fairhaven but that is cause my personality doesn't fit in that portion of Bellingham. Bellingham itself is sick though.

4. Diverse? There is a little bit of everyone there.

5. No idea

6. Economy is hurting everyone. The big jobs in town are for the City, Intalco if they are running, or the refineries. The jobs that most college students have I don't know if they are hiring or not right now.

1. with tuition raising every year and application numbers going up, WWU usually needs a 3.5 + other rcrap to get in, but WCC is great too. I had a 3.5 w/ 250 hrs of comm service and I applied directly to the graphic design program, and I got in

2. the ones around Vancouver are all about 2 hours away, whistler is 2.5 hrs, and baker is a little over an hour out, and stevens is 3.5 hrs

3./4. Bellingham is what you make it, the people are what makes this town great. So be open to new things and look for friends, they won't find you. Lots of hippes and cool skier types, also lots of the "chad" types, it is what you make it.

5. Party Scene is off the hook if you know the right people

6. Jobs are really damn hard to come by. Bellingham's population fluctuates by about 10k between june and september, so the gap of people is the best time to look.





p.s. Mr. Panda lives in the redneck part of town and sounds like one, the people at western are great if you're not bothered by definitions other than your own of what is "normal"

and Fairhaven was the shit, I lived there, drank in the dorms and smoked in the woods and met a bunch of my close friends doing so.

approach college with an appreciation for change and you'll succeed

I do not live in Custer!

Though, I live just north of the Slater Rd freeway exit and did go to Ferndale High School. I don't know, Fairhaven never held anything of interest for me outside of the Post Point Sewage Treatment Plant otherwise known as my place of employment in the summer.

yeah western is full of skiers (and also boarders). i know a lot of really chill people that go there and it's pretty fun to go up and party with them. i got to uw so the trip isn't bad at all.

also, the hottest girl i've ever known goes to western. that should be reason enough to go haha

WWU is awesome. I live right down the street. Baker pass is only $600. there's a fair amount of hipsters, but it's not nearly as bad as Portland.

Greg, Fairhaven DORMS are different than Fairhaven COLLEGE which is different than the Fairhaven DISTRICT. The dorms are on campus, the college is a division of study that is self-made (like evergreen), and the district is the ritzy brick shop/restaurant area.

Haggens and Fairhaven? Only nowadays is it "Faggens", but traditionally it was a red apple. But there's not much to do there if you happen to not have money. :(

WWU is really dope. I'm a freshmen there now and I really like it. You'll meet kids who ski/board. Baker is like 1hr15mins from campus if the roads are fine. Snowquamie(sp)  like 45 minutes from seattle if you're down there for any reason. Mt. Seymour is only like 1hr30mins minus border time, can be really quick sometimes. If you're a freshmen try to get up on the ridge and visit fairhaven frist if you're thinking about living there.
