Marker Bindings Suck!

2 Years ago I got a new pair of skis with some brand marker bindings, my first twin tips and these were the bindings recommended at the shop. So I'm out that winter and land switch, but my balance is forward and I pop out of my ski; no problem right? Wrong. The brake comes out with my boot and my binding needs an entire new brake. Whatever I have the warranty so they hook me up (It was the end of the season). I did not think much of this, just that it was a rare occurrence.  Next year I'm tra la la ing along and try a trick that once again requires me to land switch. Weight forward, I pop out and the brake comes with me. I decide to keep riding but to take it easy because of the lack of a brake. (Side story last trick I wanna go big, lifts are closed and my friends all went down already. I fall and ski goes down the entire mountain into like 4 ft. of powder. I find it after  an hour.) Well, I knew I wanted new bindings then but the guy at the shop insists those are right for me, and I have the warranty so they are free. Well, I was just out on a summer jib I built and, after I landed, did a nose butter and the stupid brake broke off. I have scratch 120s on my other skis but sheesh, Markers suck. Don't ever waste your money on them. They will break over and over and kill you.

p.s. on a totally different pair of my markers on another set of skis the entire back 1/2 of the binding fell off at one point skiing this year. wtf.

please no hate but... i have a pair of marker binding's on my 129 salomon demos. my first twin tips that i still use in my backyard sometimes. and they have worked fine for years. i also have a pair of markers on my 148 rossi scratch's and i skied them for a full 2 years and never had a problem wiht them. maybe i just got a good binding but they have worked out pretty good for me.

thats not the bindings that suck its the brakes and the screw that holds them in.   the brakes come off on a lot different kind bindings, that are cheaper like that, when you land switch. 
so this thread should be titled cheap bindings suck

This happens a lot, brakes, ironically, break al the time. But, yes the lower series of Marker Bindings are worse (Marker Free 10.0 and 11.0 are notorious for the brakes breaking off), however not ALL their bindings suck, Griffons and Jesters are two of the most used, loved, and trusted bindings for freestyle right now (a lot of pros without binding sponsors even use them), the Baron and Duke are sick for backcountry cause of the heel piece that unhinges for hiking. I understand that you have had a bad experience, but don't go saying the entire company sucks, I had the same problem with my Marker Free 11.0s, and my friend had the same problem with his 10.0s (he went through 9 brakes!), but I'm riding on griffons and they are awesome, and he would be on griffons but he got a better deal on PX12 Jibs, so I know what you're feeling, but I think you should try other bindings in their series, ones actually made for park and you'll see a HUGE difference.

I ride the marker griffons and they worked very well for me. I have friends on new look, rossi, and saloman, bindings which over the course of the season some thing broke off, jammed shut or twisted all the way around. My markers have been incredibly durable after i put them through some solid well-using and they are still going strong for next year.

Well any binding will suck when you land switch and pop out. Remeber that when you pop out and your skis are foreward, the breaks drag and retract. When you land switch your bindings cannot retract and stay stiff. Anyways its just a break, the easiest part to fix on binders.

alot of marker bindings are bad
but i think marker has stepped up their game and produced some good solid bindings with the duke jester griffon and baron

I strongly suggest that you go into a shop with an idea of the product you want. Unless they are ultra legit their "suggestions" are usually just them trying to get rid of a product they can't sell

Brakes are under warranty??? haha I never knew that, damn I could have saved some money this last year.

As said before, brakes snap. Its not the binding. I skiied on rossi axials and broke 2 brakes and my buddy has px12jib and broke 3 brakes. It's only a $20 fix for a new brake or most shops have a pile of used ones you can put on. Everytime the brakes broke it was landing switch. the guy at the shop said that if you land with your weight a little towards your tips and switch the pressure on yuor brake is less so when your heel hits it snaps. So basically stop landing poorly and your brakes will stop breaking.

BTW marker doesnt really suck, I would love to be riding jesters on my skis.

yeah jesters are so sick, and way beefy. I have had my same pair of jesters for 2 full seasons, and going on the 3rd. I remounted them on new skis both years, and I'm doing the same this year. I've never broken a brake or done anything to them, and I ski 3-4 times a week all day in the park...

How did your binding break off when you buttered?  Even if you popped out, you were still not moving.  I am calling 100% BS on that.  They usually break when landing switch just because, they are not made to stop a ski sliding backwards.  Are you sure the break just wasn't screwed on incorrectly or you left the bindings outside in the heat or in direct sun?  Jesters are my favorite binding to this day.

ridin my JJ's on a deep pow day and was just rollin through the park on my way back to the lift.  tossed flatspin 5, yardsaled pretty good and the toe piece broke. it didnt rip out, it just straight broke. 3rd week on the bindings. im also riding dalbello boots and the toe peice does not fit snug on my boot at all, wiggles all around. sold them as soon as i could.

what kind of marker bindings were they?  I have the Marker 12.0s and i've busted 4 breaks now in about 100 days on them, all landing switch like you described. it's annoying but the local shop charged me $5 the first time and said if it happens again to go back and they'd hook me up for free, and they did

I have witnessed just about every binding Marker makes in some sort of broken state.  Jesters and Dukes as well.  My favorite were the $500 Dukes on day 2 that broke away into freeheel mode halfway down the mountain.  It's a crap company with a new paint job in my experience.  I don't care what anyone says about them, I will never trust them.  Blah, Blah, Blah, pros break them too.  I've seen Jesters go.  They aren't bombproof even though every 120 pound kid will tell you they are.

I'm 185 pounds, and I say their bombproof. haha. goin on 3rd season with my same jesters, they look horrible but they just feel so good still.

I have Griffon's, but I have a pair of all mountain skis that I just got. And I don't know if I can swing the cash for the Griffon's.......

I might look at the Jesters, what will I notice besides them being mainly plastic?

I have Jesters on my bents and freeride 12s on my goats.  I havent had any problem with either, though the 12s seem like they might break someday.  The jesters have been bombproof so far. 

Usually I opt for rossi/look turntable/pivots for park though. 

I will agree that I have participated in marker hate in the past, though I have never seen any problem with the newer lines.

markers are decent. not the best but still they get the job done. i rode m900 on my p.e.s for 2 years and no problems. my friend rode m11 on his old skis for 2 years and now mounted them on his ninthward for backyard and the only thing that happeened was the tab that you step on at the heel piece snapped off so all he does is lift up the heel piece with his other ski and hes solid. and totally unrelated but my backyard skis have solly kid bindings maxed out at 4 and they work great too. every company makes bad bindings learn from people on here but dont go ripping you knee or acl out cuz you bought p18 and are 120 lbs.

Learn how to land switch better, there are no bindings that are designed with switch landings in mind.

You're lucky it was warrantied, you probably would have had the same problem on any binding.

They brakes still deploy and get ripped backwards full force if you land switch though don't they?  That is why no bindings have switch landings in mind.  I feel like that is the next big thing we are going to see in binding innovation, a brake that deploys in a manner that functions in both directions.

adjust the din rating on the binding. the same thing happened to me, and it seems like with marker bindings (besides the royal line) that the din runs 2-3 lower then what it says. thats what happened, if u haddent busted out then the break wouldnt have broken.

i landed on my tail last week and bent my nose piece up on my griffons, now i ride sth 16's, if your gonna buy marker get jesters, griffons really arnt that good

ive heard good things about the jesters and griffons, the cheaper ones arent even worth your time though. i had some of the cheap ones and they lasted 3 months and almost completely fell apart.

With the exception of Jesters, all Marker bindings are a waste of money if you're mounting on a park ski.

However, Marker still makes some of the best race bindings IMO.

I got some Marker Griffon, and they rock! But my friend got some really cheap bindings and it happends the same thing. And his screw that holds the brakes gets loose so the brakes easily fall off.

I have Griffons mounted on my Hellbents and I have been very impressed with them. One of the most solid bindings I've skied. I didn't need the 16 DIN of the Jester, but I have found no compromises in terms of durability with the Griffons.

Griffons are a solid binding. i had problems with marker bindings previous to owning griffons and hated them. Landing switch was impossible without them popping off.

I have MARKER's and they r fine. they r good weight and i hvnt had a problem w/ them. The only down side is that they r dilldoo bindings so if you land bak seat ur fucked. But I wouldnt complain I think all u need to do is tighten ur bindings a bit more. Im supposed to have mine on '4' but screw em up to '8' otherwize when i hit jumps theyll just fall right off. That might b ur problem :)

lies!!! you probly got a dud binding. they are pretty durable. ive detached like 15 times going switch and my brakes havent broke out yet.

Jesters SUCK epically... I was so stoked to get mine, shelled out £230 for them ($400 for all you yanks), skied on them for a week, landed slightly heel heavy off a tiny roller, and the toepiece blew to bits, tried to call the uk distributor but the number that is online is a dud, went back to the shop and they said they couldnt do anything for me... I bought jesters caus i was sick of bending the runner plates on the heelpieces of my rossi bindings.... having looked at whats about i can reccomend Head / Tyrolia mojo / peak 15 / 18s, or STH 16's... So angry to pay $400 to get worse performance than I had got out of my first set of rossi scratch 110 bindings ($99).

I don't know if i've been really unlucky or what, but i've had some dud skis from line this year, with bases that burn up and stick like carpet no matter what service I do, and some shit bindings from marker... My faith in K2 has gone...

On the + just bought myself some rossi scratch blings and some mojo15s woooop!
