So I'm at work, and I bent down to get something off the floor, and hurt my back. So I said, okay, ill just go take some painkillers and everything should be alright. Well normally, I steer clear of aspirin, because my mom has a severe allergy to it, which is why in the past year or so, I haven't taken any. Well all the medkit at work had was aspirin, and my back was really bugging me, so I was just like, well nothing bad should happen, I mean, its just aspirin. It's not like a year ago I couldn't take it, what should have changed now? Apparently a lot.
So I take two, and go back to work. After about 15 minutes, I start sweating profusely, and everything feels weird. My face is all tingly, my tongue feels puffy, my lips are swollen, and my vision is all blurred. (I'm going into anaphylactic shock. This thought didn't occur to me as it was happening, which is weird because both my parents are doctors, and my mom also goes into Anaphylactic shock when she takes aspirin, so I know a lot about this stuff, but i just didn't pick up on it.)Not to count that I basically couldn't stand up. I say that im gonna go take a seat out back in the break room and try to relax. It's late at night, and theres no one else in there. Suddenly, out of no where, I just puke everywhere. Then I can't breathe. And this isn't like "Oh im having a hard time breathing after a run" no this was I CAN'T FUCKING GET AIR because my throat was swollen shut. So I guess I go unconcious, and next thing I know, I'm in the back of an ambulance, hooked up to an IV and i've got the fun oxygen mask on me. Next thing I know, this lady jabs me with an EpiPen, and my heart starts racing. We get to the hospital, and they move me to a room, and everything starts to slow down and I actually start feeling better. It took about 30 minutes for all the swelling to go down and for my heart rate and breathing to return to normal. My parents still haven't arrived at the hospital, but my coworker Josh is there for some reason. Then I remember that before I took the aspirin, I told him how my back was bugging me, and he was like "Oh well theres aspirin in the medkit". Apparently he was also the one who found me unconcious on the floor in the break room. I was gone for like 10 minutes when everyone was wodering where I was. Josh knew I wasn't feeling well either. So he came back and found me, freaked out supposedly (this is what he was telling me) and called 911. Then because he felt like it was his fault i took the aspirin, he went to the hospital with me.
Im okay now, I got released about 2 hours ago, and have just been relaxing. But it was such a scary feeling. Like not being able to breathe is such a weird feeling, and you really don't know how scary it is until it happens. Now I have to carry epipens on me everywhere and im supposed to get a med bracelet that says im allergic to NSAIDS. Just thought I would share my experience.
