Cuz core sports are generally viewed as extreme by the public thus making it cool. Mainstream douchebaggery then comes in and tries to generate cred by being involved in said sports so they can make a buck off all the dudes that snowboard 3 times a year and think they are hard core extreme boarders

they're market is basically those dudes decked in head to toe burton complete with $200 beginner board and have burton stickers slammed all over there cars all the while saying skiers are gay even tho in reality any one of us could step on a board and ride circles around them
