Have you ever given up something to ski?

SO I was just chillin drinking a beer (or two)....

I started to think of everything I have given up to ski. I mean, my family all lives in Florida, I gave up a $75k a year promotion, live in a studio< (yea its sun valley but i do not know anyone).

WHy?

Man, the feeling of being out on the mountain with all the white covered trees after a fresh snow fall, the crisp cold feeling in the morning, ripping down past ski patrol (I do respect them, im no punk). Looking forward to hearing the "click" sound from the boots meeting the bindings. being up in the trees where no one has even touched yet, so quiet you can actually hear the cold air. man, im ready to ski.

I have never given up a gf but two gave me up for skiing to much. I lived near keystone, co and would ski all night.

ive given up bitches and school grades. you can look at my report cards and see like 2nd and 3rd quarter (ski season) when my grades were shitty as fuck haha then they pop back up in the spring.

same, i almost never [rarely] go to party in winter cause i go to my cottage on weekends for skiing.. so it kinda sucks.. but whatever, skiing wins it

grades, especially in the future.
i had a girlfriend who wasn't too happy with me when i would skip out on chillin with her to go skiing.

hella money i could have spent on other things, not htat i would have.
hella weekends, i missed a few filthy parties for pow days.

when it comes down to it, id rather be skiing than anywhere else. it pisses a lot of people off where im from, but id much rather go skiing at my shitty mountain for a couple hours then go to some random person whom i probably wont talk to in a year's birthday party. deal with it.

well last year i had a 3.75 before ski season after the season was over i had 1.5 worked my ass off and got a 2.0

Well my parents make me keep my grades up to ski haha so I'm still rockin that 4.3 in the ski season (claim) but definitely gave up a and a couple friendships because I was skiing every weekend.

i gave up the stereotypical college life because the school wasnt close enough to my mountain. now i go to an insanely boring school and have essentailly no social life because i moved away from all my HS friends just to ski and i would do it again in a heartbeat because nothing can beat skiing in between classes

here is a storie. haha.

well my cousin has some crazy friends and they lived in CT.. they where 18 the time and where sick of the crap they had to go threw to get some good rideing in so they though of what they could do. they went out to CO. not to metion they wheere working for the family and where making GOOD money. they left and when they got there they had a friend who was workin lifts and going to college and i guess the lift people where givin housing on the moutian. it was a two person dorm room and had only two beds and that is it. when my cousins friends got there they where asked to bunk there and they did for about a couple days befor their friends roommate got pissed about how manypeople where staying there and all the smelly wet ski cloaths and boards. the room was packed and they had to move out. they had no room so what they did was made a huge iglue about 2 minutes away from the dorms so they would go there and shower and eat but would crawl in the iglue at night and sleep there. i talked to them and they said it was amazeing and you would think it would be cold but he said that it wasnt. he said he had shelves to hang his cloaths to dry and everthing....

so what im saying is some people just risk it all and i respect thatt.

Gave up close to a full ride to play field hockey in college so I could move out to Utah to go to the U to ski, but Id say its one of the best decisions Ive made in a while

I'm a scuba diver; i completed my course together with my dad; now he is a dive instructor and i'm an assistant instructor.
Every winter our club does 2 dive vacations, 1 to egypt and one to thailand, phillipines, etc.
for the past 3 years i had a choice; go dive in paradise for free (while instructing) or go skiing...
And yes, i've allways chosen to go skiing; so far i've never made a dive in tropical water... :(

so i gave that up + i was a young talent in the belgian climbing competition; i've been on some national teams and international competitions; but once i got my own skis i preferred to go spend my weekends on the slopes....

in winter i'm either studying or skiing; my social life suffers+i dont get to spend much time with my family....

In '85 i packed up my Chevy shortbed w/ everything i owned and moved out to Colorado. I was 21, i had no job, no money, no friends and no place to live. Being from Arkansas (yeah i know) i had skied 6 or 7 ski weeks so i knew i liked skiing but i had no idea it would consume the rest of my life. In the last 25 years skiing has given me experiences i could have only dreamed about back in Little Rock such as

Skiing against McConkey on the Pro Mogul Tour
Being on the Cover of SKI Magazine
Do Shots of tequila w. Plake
Coaching Pep Fujas for 4 years
coaching Travis Mayer 2002 Olympic Moguls Silver Medalist
Getting a full page in Powder out of my 1st photo shoot ever (def beginers luck)
Skiing all over the world NZ, Argentina, Chile, Whistler and everwhere in the states

Skiing has given me so much. I've met soo many cool people, skied so many sick mountains, stood at the bottom of so many crazy powder runs shouting with my poles in the air, the things i've given up seem insignificant in comparison.

i pretty much fucked up my last school year by not studying because id spend all my weekends skiing and i missed some pretty important shit because i was daydreaming about hitting the park. also, i pretty much abandon every that isnt skiing during winter weekends; parties, family and even friends...

i don't know how much i have 'given up' for skiing... i know everything i do is for skiing... to a point. hmmm, lets be more clear about this.

I will only do something if it allows me to ski more, or if it have no affect on the amount of skiing I may or may not have.

It would be nice to stay in one location year round, with the people I love, but instead I go into the bush 4 months of the year to work - that is my biggest sacrifice I make towards the shred. I've got friends, I've got a lady, I have freedom...

I think it's all perspective. If you are truly dedicated towards skiing, then it shouldn't feel like you have to sacrifice anything for it, because it is what you truly want to do. You know? People can't do everything all the time, so no matter what you choose to do with your life, there are going to be things that just can't happen at the same time. So while you may think you have given up something to ski, think about all those people who have given up skiing to do... shit, whatever those people who don't ski do.

what do they do anyways? snowboard?

Hmm. I've certainly given up time with friends and g/fs to ski, and plenty of $$ of course.

I gave up all the catilige in my ankle as well, but that was more TO skiing than FOR skiing.
