As a surfer (when there is no snow that is) there is no way thats as fun and awesome as actual surfing. Just looks awkward.
Honest drawbacks would be:
1 Paddling through the break (spesh beach break) on anything higher then ankle biters. (if they are only meant for small waves disregard points 2,3 and 4
2 Waiting in the line up would be awkward and hard spesh in choppy and inconsistant surf but you would probably get used to it.
3 Getting swollowed by a wave would be right dangerous. Imagine getting washed and ending up upside down with those things on your feet spesh if it was on the first wave in the set, hope you can hold your breath along time.
4 I cannot see core surfers in places like cali and hawii ever excepting those meaning its quite possible you'll get chased out of the water before you even get a chance to grab something.
Actually Just got a good Idea for people who would like to try something like this and it would be way more fun! Wearing regular water skis get a tow in from a jet ski. Then you don't need those dumb as fuck things that ski surfer is wearing on your feet and you can catch some bigger waves! Maybe even grab some airs!
PS a personal pet peeve of mine is those guys who are so anti- single board they will go to great lengths to try and make a ski version of every board sport there is. If that is the case here.
