Ultimate road trip vehicle?

NS, what would you realistically consider the ultimate road trip vehicle? Not necesarily like a 50 ft motorhome with a swimming pool and ski dubai-esqe setup, but like what kind of car do you think would do the best for driving with like 3-5 people for at least 500 mi with a reasonable amount of junk?

Umm, actually a mini van would be pretty good.  Tons of room for all your buddies and gear, and good gas mileage for its size.  Most have roof racks too.

I just drove my Xterra 1600 miles across the country pulling a trailer. I'd say that's a pretty decent road trip vehicle. Especially if you can keep the back of the truck empty, so there's a place to lay out and relax for a while.

they don't have AWD
in terms of true and universal roadtripability probably a mercedes-benz G55 AMG
although it comes at quite a price...
