Powder ski

So I'm thinking of buyying a powder ski, mainly for resort riding, but also some cat-skiing as well, looking for a super playful ski, easy to spin, nt so much a charging ski, one to jump around, spin, mostly just play around in the powder. I'm 6'3 and about 210 pounds without gear.

I'm lookimg at K2 Hellbents in a 191

Moment Night Trains in a 186

Armada JJ's in a 185

All ski's would be mounted with marker griffons most likely, in the case of the K2 a schizofrantic version. Suggestions, comments are greatly appreciated.

So I just recently came across 333 ski's, any ideas on that? custom made ski's for you at a pretty decent price!

I've been talking to Michael about my design for a while now.  He has the multi-point sidecut order form up now and ready to use, and is finalizing the multi point sidecut sheet(what he sends you after you fill out the order form).  Skis are cap, which in a pow ski is a good thing(because it keeps them super light).  some people don't like cap park skis because of edge problems(and the flex has to be done perfectly, which Michael can probably do), but Michael has his shit down for that(you can request kevlar underfoot to reinforce the edges more on any ski, I did on my 195 pow ski) and he has a sick warranty.  I say do it, and make sure to have tip and tail taper(makes powder skis much much better) which on the sheet is "tip length".

  Here is an idea for a design:  140/120/135 in a 190(fattest-skinniest-fattest) with 32cm tip length(from very tip to fattest part of tip) and 28cm tail length, 45 cm tip and 40cm tail continuous curve rocker with about 7.5cm rise in tip 7cm in tail(all rise from rocker) Medium-stiff underfoot, medium tail, and medium to medium soft tip.

surface. they are making a semetrical pow ski with three stage rocker.

i believe hellbents biggest size is a 189. but they do measure long so if your already factoring that in then you may be correct.

from what ive heard, ep's and hellbents are probably on the more playful side of the powder skis. if you want a really really fun one the EP's are buttery and FAT. but hellbents might be better all-around

wrong, long continuous rocker.  LL2s are a good choice, I really don't understand the point of a symmetrical ski(especially in pow) but I guess that the exact sidecut would matter less in pow(except more hooky tails now).  I think they should have done either the same design with less tail than tip, or a 12mm fatter LL2, maby with continuous rocker.  I guess the new live life is close to the same design as the new life-some tail sidecut though...  anyway, surface is sick!  the new Live life is FAT.  I have been skeptical to skis with tips over 150mm(other than Pontoons, since they are so pintail) but I guess everybody loved Comis..so I really want to try the new LL(156/120/135) just to see how it skis.  Surface needs to add tip taper to some designs though..

Thanks for all the responses guys!

Surface is cool but for some reason I'm not a very big fan of them. I looked into the ON3P Caylors more and they seem like a sick ski, but reviews are limited on them and i wonder how playful they would be, same with the moment night trains.

everyone and there mooms know bents are an amazing, at most what 10 people on this site have ridden on3P's yea they look dank but its all hearsay on how they ride, im not trying to nock on3p ill def pick up a pair in the future, i just wana make sure they ride as good as everyone talks them up to be first

To be fair, we had over 35 individual testers who had pairs to last season, and those testers lent out their pairs to a number of people, so we have had more than 10 people on the skis.  So not saying that you aren't having to base your decision off a lot of hearsay, as that is often the case with new companies, but we have had the skis out to enough people that we are confident in them.

And do you believe the Cylor would be a good for what I'm looking for? Skiing deep powder in the interior BC using it as a backcountry jib ski? Lots of pop and playfulness?

Yes.  Especially at your height and weight. They are poppy and playful but stiffer than the hellbents, so they will provide you far more stability than the hellbent.  Plus the 191cm caylor is noticeably lighter than the 189cm hellbents, so they will be easier to toss around in the air.  We had a lot of 191cm caylor testers who came from 189cm hellbents, and the first thing every one of them said was how much lighter the caylors were.

Another quick question for the masses. What bindings? I'm Pretty set on marker, but I've been considering mountaing Caylors with dukes or barons if maybe they will be useful in the back country. other wise jesters or griffons. I've been told i can get away with the griffons even though being for lighterweight riders, becauyse i have a large foot size it allows me to run a lower din?

If you are ever thinking about doing a tour in the future, go with dukes for an almost alpine bomber binding that tours or fritschis for one that is lighter, and tours a little better, ie you don't have to take them off to go from skiing to touring mode. And they have an adjustable toe piece so you can lock in nice and tight. The great thing about both of these is that you don't need AT boots to fit in.
