Campers - is there a difference?

Ah, the long months of summer. Months that I usually spend working. And with work comes cash - I've already bought a DLSR, my books for school, paid a tad on my loans, and STILL have excess that I want to spend. I've been getting really interested in outdoor activities lately - hiking, snowshoeing, touring, camping. So I'm looking at buying a tent, and at some point I'd like to do some winter BC camping. My question to you is: is there a difference between these two tents?

Kelty Yellowstone 2-Person, 3-Season tent ($90)

North Face VE 25 3-Person, 4-Season tent ($570)

I mean, there must be a difference ($500 worth of a difference), but I don't see one tent being 'warmer' than another. I can see the more expensive being sturdier, but the reviews I've read on the first one seem to be pretty good.


Also - how is there no cult for things like this? I tried making one (see sig), but it failed pretty miserably.

i think it's mostly quality/waterproofing/breathability and there may be some warmth difference.

not too sure but i think the north face would be warmer, it is a 4 season tent and the other one is 3, it looks like parts of it are just mesh which would make it less warm. Also being 3 person instead of 2 makes it cost more.

I understand that it is 4-season, compared to 3-season, and that it fits one more person. But still don't think that would account for a $500 difference. Both of these tents are from BC, but thanks for the think.

ok so i just did some more research into the fabrics, the kelty have very basic more breathable nylon, the north face has thicker more less breathable nylon, that is why the northface is more expensive and warmer

that north face is like an everest tent, prob a bit excessive. i think i've slept in that kelty before and it's more of a summer tent, i'd try to find something in the middle of the 2, 570 obviously being a bit excessive but 90 not quite getting you what you want
