I am pretty set on buying a pair of obsetheds for this coming season and i need a little input on size. I am 6' about 170lbs and my all mountain skis are a 183. I plan on using them mainly as powder skis and tree skiing. However I would like to be able to get some decent hardpack performace out of them. I know they run about 4 cms longer than the posted length but I was hoping for some first hand experience as to which size to get. Thanks for any input!
I have 179 Obsetheds mounted +6. I am 5'11 and 150lbs. They rip on Hardpack but not in crud (179 is a softer flex) I love them in the trees too. The only time I get tip dive is when its over the knee, but this is mainly due to the mount, I have had them at +4cm and I find they charge better there and would no doubt float better.
For a tree ski I would find the 189 (really 194) too big to really throw around, but for big lines they'd be sick.
It really depends on where your priorities lie, if its more for soft conditions in the park, trees/bowls etc then get the 179 but if its for ripping big lines then the 189 may be better suited. Oh yeah, and the rocker is sick, they feel a bit longer in pow and it allows more Slashy type turns.
Interestingly I noticed on the k2 site last year, that alot of their team riders that were riding 189 hellbents, were choosing to ride the 179 in the Obsethed (Ager, Frank Raymond etc..)
NB: for those SUPER deep days in the pnw I may still get another ski ie; Moment Night Train, Armada JJ. But I can more than get by on the Obsethed.
