Help me pick a ski..

so im going to be in CO for school next year and need to pick up some fat skis. probably looking for anything between 110-120, not a full rocker, soft (softer the better), and something relatively bi-directional.

Im: 5'8" ,  130lbs.  advanced/expert.

as of right now ive been looking at the JJs, S7s and maybe SFB (might be too big?) and any others

i was thinking about the hellbents but the full rocker is kind of scaring me away. i want something that is pretty versitile so i can still ski groomers decently.

Actually sounds like you're looking directly at the Moment Bibby Pro.

Check out the Powder 2010 buyer's guide that just came out, they pretty much have the best models from most of the companies.  Though they skipped over some great ones, it's still worth a look.

ep pros sound amazing, as do the bibby pros but they only come in a 185 and 186 respectively (to my knowledge). i was thinking of getting something in the 176-180 range (does that sound right for this type of ski at my height and weight?)

Salomon Shogun, although who knows if they'll explode like other Salomons.  They're only like 103 or something underfoot but they have a bamboo core so they're much better for the environment, and you can't help but feel good about that. 

Maybe the Faction 3.Zero, but it's not rockered.  Still, 112 underfoot.

OH PERFECT.

New for this year, the 4FRNT CRJ.  at 172 it's 112 underfoot, at 180 it's 115 underfoot, regular camber underfoot and reverse camber at the tip and tail.

god damn! i just wish the ep pros came in like a 180

or could i actually pull off a 185 being 5'8" 130ish?

Early rise is the exact same thing as rocker, just Line's name for it.

yeah I've skied the e.p. pros (08-09), hellbents, S7 and jj's and i would highly reccomend the JJ's. I found them to be the most versatile. With the regular camber and sidecut in the middle of the ski (which is stiffer too) you can rip groomers and stuff. Since the sidecut is 'compressed' into a shorter section of the ski, they actually have a really tight turn radius (12m at 175, 14m at 185). Then you have the really soft rockered tip and tail so you float really nice. I got the 185's, and i'm like 5'10 and 150lbs, and i wouldnt go shorter, cuz they ski really short and i wanna float. I liked the S7's too, skied similar to the JJ's, but they're more of a pintail shape, so not as good for skiing switch in the pow.

Dude, no problem.  I was going to get EPs, but then I realized I could pull another year on my Hellbents.  That's only two more inches than a 180.  Do it.

check out some moments(if you like the square tip) they all have a stiffer flex or surface.

Skiing switch at all?  If not, 188 S7s and 186 EHPs will be some of the best choices out there.  If you are not skiing your pow ski switch(oh, and people do ski S7s switch, and I am sure EHPs too) then get a ski made to ski best forward.  either of those will turn incredibly easily for you, even a 193 EHP will turn super short in pow(if you want it to) for somebody 130lbs.

he said he 'doesnt want a ski thats full rocker' which by the sounds of it means he doesnt want something like the hellbent or EP even though they are both sick skis and definately what you'd want out there... check out the Seth Vicious, pretty rockered, pretty fat, pretty fun

yeah the bent chetlers would be a really good ski to consider too. Very similar design to the JJ's, (they're made in the same factory too). I think 183 would be fine. My 185 JJ's ski shorter than my 171 Scratch BC's i got when i was 16. If you came into my shop i'd get you on th 183's based on the info you've given

189 Live Life 2s they ski really short pretty cetered a lot of rocker but stiff enough to get you through groom just fine. Great skis 112 underfoot
