Best All Around Mountain in Vermont

So a group of kids from my high school in Maryland take a bus up to Vermont every year for a 4 day ski trip. So far we have been to Stowe, Mt Snow, and Smuggs. Any suggestions? my favorite so far is Stowe. Thanks

stowe is definitely the best all around, it has good parks and great pow/glades for the east coast. mt snow or maybe loon are the best for park, and jay is the best for pow/glades. i would say if you're driving up to northern vermont, maybe hit up mt snow on the way and then go to stowe, and if you're willing to drive the extra 40 er so minutes, go to jay

KILLINGTON! They have awsome parks (only mountain on east coast with "the stash"), great tree skiing with some fun cliffs to jump, good beginner slopes, mogul runs, and its big enough to never get bored on the same trail

we went to Smuggs last year which was fun because the glades were nice and the snow was decent, but the lifts sucked and i froze to death riding the one that goes all the way to the top because it was sooo windy. the park was ok but they were doing construction on it alot. not very crowded though

i'd agree with you on this one man. killington is the shit. i loved their tree skiing and it felt like a really free mountain. to the thread creator: HIT KILLY!

I'd say your best bet for a wide diversity of terrain will be Killington, Stowe, Sugarbush and Jay. Anywhere else is really hit or miss because of less snows (Southern VT) or poor lifts (Smuggs).

Killington and Stowe are going to give a massive amount of diversity. Lots of great terrain and tree runs and reasonable annual snowfall totals and reliable snowmaking too.

if you are worried about lift lines at all hit up Killingotn, since the switch to the new owners there have been absolutely NO lines. They have been replacing some of their old lifts so if you want you can get around the entire mountain on at least a high speed quad. Even on vacation weeks or long weekends the lines are not bad at all, seriously. The lines are 5x faster than they were four years ago. If you like moguls or big mountain hit up the Outer Limits Quad and ski OL or Devils Fiddle non stop all day, no lift line and access to some of killly's best terrain. Actually if you are an intermediate park skier and don't need to hit any jump over 30 feet Killington would be perfect.

smuggs = poor lifts are you guys serious? the mountain has all doubles, its epic.......the conditions usually arent that epic so why does it matter how fast the lifts are? enjoy the freakin ride!

I dont get how so many people love stowe. The only reason to like stowe is if your mom buys you a season pass. That place is redicoulos. The daily pass is 84$ and you only get half a day. That is the exact same price as one day in Whistler! you have to be filthy rich to ski there and the mountain isnt even that great. Its super windy, icy and the people there are generaly bitchy rich groomer shredders. on top of that you cant even lock your skis because they dont have the proper racks for ski keys. the other side of the notch is way sicker. At least at smuggs the people there are nice and you dont have to break your budget

unless hes with a local hes not gona know how to get to slide brook or navigate threw it alos if the snows not good no chance hes getting over there, but sugarbush is awesom one of my favorite mnts

Bolton valley is super fun.
ridiculous park setup. really well maintained. Fun tree skiing. Really cool people no lift lines ever. Oh and it's way cheaper than anywhere else in Norther VT. And if you're a student get the tripple major. then you get to ride jay and Mad river too. and it's only like $270 or something I think.

yea dude bolton is super fun. the liftys are super chill and you can just lap the park all day long. and night skiing is a giant plus, i go there after school. its ridiculous.

that's a big thing with most mtns in VT, is you kinda need to be a virtual local to know where the goods are. and by that i mean just spend enough times over enough seasons rooting around the resort to find stuff, whenever you manage to get to that resort..........

I loved the terrain when I skied there, but the whole standing in lift lines and taking forever to get a run in did turn me off a bit. (Both visits were weekends)

I love a good slow chair now and again, just not ever run.

hey im from NE vermont i ride burke which is small but has most types of terrain but i wouldnt take a trip here smuggs sucks donkey dick stowe is kindof a hit or miss on weather but there biggest park tyro is dope jay has probly one of the worst parks ever built but they  have by far the best pow/tree trails on the east coast loon is fun there parks are all dialed so if you want park id go there but your best bet to give every body a good time would be stowe

yeah we went there for vacation last year and deiced to go check out the stash. first the rails look sketchy, all the wood is peeling off the sides, its like catch an edge heaven. the only semi good thing in there are the little tree taps and rock jibs, but i wouldn't hit those too because i really do not trust rock vs. ski base

just go to bolton valley, its small but they have a fun park, night skiing, real chill liftys, and its just plain awesome. i dont know why people dont like it

Bolton is an average mountain. It doesn't have as much variety as Stowe or Sugerbush. It has an an above average park. It gets good snow , but nothing comparable to Jay. Some lifties are super chill, while others asked me, "why my skis curled in the back".  The only thing that really makes it stand out is that it has night skiing. And some really good stashes, but that needs local help.

But don't get me wrong, I love BV too , but just not as much as Sugarbush or other mountains.
