For this shot I used a 13 second exposure at F11. From my experience, shooting lighning takes the basic knowledge of long exposures with a shit load of luck. Like I said before, it took two hours to get one good shot. To answer your question, yes, I just prayed that lightning would come down in the frame. To make it easier I noticed the majority of the forked lightning was only coming down in two spots on the horizon. Every once in a while I would switch it up and test my luck with the new spot. Also, I played around with my exposure/ f stop alot becasue it was giving me drastic changes. Too long of an exposure and the street lights would become blown-out. On the other hand, not enough time left me with a very small chance at capturing lighning. Hope that helps, and good luck if you ever try to shoot lightning
