K2 and line

ok maybe liabilty isnt the right word. what im trying to say is that it doesnt make since that k2 owns line.

k2 also owns Ride Snowboards and Morrow. each company does there own thing

well line is a freestyle ski company (park, rails, bc) and k2 is a huge ski company that makes skis for racing, carving, park, all mountain, bc. and... wait, where was i going with this...?

personally i think its good that k2 isnt jacking lines shit, or just pumping out public enemies with lines name on it. they still let line do their own thing, they let ride do their own thing and you gotta respect that. if anything i think that k2 owning line can just give them a little more money to make a quality product that people want to ski. i understand that having line as its own company would be nice, but k2 owning them is not a bad second to that, and better than no line at all.

Why would K2 want to have all these different presses and make similar skis to LINE?  That is the great thing.  Someone wants a symmetrical ski, LINE has one, someone wants a Big Mountain ski, K2 has tons.  Each brand seems individual, but it is a way for K2 to make almost any product imaginable, but under different brand names.  Does that make sense?  Each company builds a different rep, while K2 makes the money.

word this is true. they can make lots of different types of legit skis. but its a bit like theyre trying to become the burton empire wich i something that i definatly dont want to happen to the ski industry. its good that there are a lot of competitors

i believe that the parent company that owns K2 also owns a large share of the rossignol empire

Since K2 OWNS Line, why would they copy essentially from themselves? If they copy Line's product, the profit still goes to them. It's smart to keep the company the way it is, people really like it and because of that they buy from them. If people buy from K2, K2 makes money. If people buy from Line, K2 still makes money. So there's no need to copy their product since it's already theirs.

i dont think anyone in this thread knows what the hell they are talking about.

If you think about it a parent company owning a smaller compnay that is viewed as a "competitor" is actually one of the smartest things they can do. It happens so much in the economy its not even funny. A large wealthy company will notice a smaller company rising up out of the ashes and realize that it has potential and may very well one day become a threat to their income. instead of buying out the company and destroying it, thus loosing the "small" companies customers, the parent company buys the smaller company but lets it continue on doing its own thing just giving part of its portions to the parent company.

The smaller company reaps the benefits of having access to the parent companies RandD program and funding, while still being able to be viewed as a smaller independent grass roots company. which in todays market is trendy and fashionable and attracts clientel.

its all so people can make money not so you can have a wider variety or better skis to choose from. its smart business. k2 is smart.

To set the record straight, you're making the wrong comparison and it is confusing for sure. K2 Sports is the parent company of LINE and K2 Skis, as well as a few other brands like K2 Snowboards, K2 Skate, Karhu, Atlas Snowshoes, ect.  K2 Skis as well as Line are a part of the K2 Sports family of brands. For example, Atomic & Salomon are owned by the same company but no one is confused and thinks Salomon owns Atomic, they're just owned by the same company. 2 totally separate companies doing there own thing. comprende?

sooo, in as many words as possible, saying K2 Skis owns Line is incorrect. That's like saying that Tubbs Snowshoes owns LINE, and LINE owns K2 Skates, which is not the case duh. The Line brand is still run by the guy who started it in his garage 15 years ago and K2 Skis is still run by the great folks who bring you great skis, the best team in the world and hilarious marketing. Both these great brands have the backing of K2 Sports, a parent company who with its powers combine is CAPTAIN PLANET!! wait..no..it's just a really good thing to be a part of. Hope that clears it up!
