Girlfriends and Skiing

every year of high school so far, i've had a girlfriend starting in the fall, nothing has lasted past febuary, all because of skiing. 'I don't think it is working out, i never see you because you are always skiing' is the gist of the line i get everytime a girl breaks up with me. Girls need to realize, as most girls on NS probably do, that skiing usually comes before girls, especially in highschool. Four girlfriends gone because of skiing. At least i know skiing will never leave me.
I go to the US on a ski trip and meet this american girl. She asks, 'where are you from?'. I answer, 'Ottawa, Canada'. 'Where's Ottawa', she replies. Oh man ...americans...

Why dont you date a girl that feels that skiing is more important then you? You should always date someone that has their priotities straight.

I have taken my luck for granted. The 3 girls I have gone out with for extended amount of time and cared about either skied or snowboarded. Last year I went skiing a couple times a week with my girlfriend. We broke up later but new girlfriend snowboards and is pretty good its cool

yep, get a girl with her own life and own interests (doesn't neccesarily have to be skiing) who understands that you dont have to spend every waking minute together to have a good relationship

Their loss. I don't like boyfriends who are clingy, and I don't have to see them everyday. I guess some people are better at accepting and dealing with that than others.

Yeah, and then you find a significant other who skis, and in my experience they treat you like a fucking baby. Get real excited over things that aren't good at all. If there's one thing I hate it's being babied. I wish I could find a guy who I could date but still hold on hill mutual respect without all the bullshit.

^that'd piss me off. my guy's alot better than me on th hill, he's been skiing for way longer, so we go up with a few other people, he goes off with people more at his skill level, I go off with people more at my skill level, and we meet up later and hang out. works really well.

I've dated snowboarders before and it wasn't a problem. he understood that skiing was important to me and didn't whine about ti when i left. only problem was he used the time i went skiing to fool around with a bunch of other girls....

when i first started dating. i always told them straight-up that sking, windsurfing and mt. biking are huge parts of my life and that I am not willing to give that up for a girl. However, i would gladly teach them and help them into their own gear at some expense to me. Otherwise, they would have to deal with it. I had lots who cant in High school. However, i just got married to the coolest person in the world. she is into the same sports, and lets me get new gear when i need it.

My girlfriend understands how important skiing is to me and that I only have a few months to do it. Usually i spend 2 nights with her a week and ski the rest of the week (if im lucky) So it works out pretty well. She skis too, so she understands.

yeah i guess i'm one of the lucky ones as well. met my boyfriend (now fiance) at breck in the early season park. lol. we ski together all the time since we're both pretty good. i started when i was 5. he's way better in the park though but that's okay. we cheer each other on. it's nice to have that support on the hill. it makes hiking a lot nicer, too. make out breaks... lol. and when we're old and decrepit we'll still have all the memories of the awesome days we've shared out on the hill. i can't imagine being with anyone else. i think skiing makes our relationship that much stronger. haha to add skiing even more to our lives, he's starting up a twin-tip only shop here in boulder. yep. i'm one lucky girl.

the last guy that liked me, told me that he had been skiing all his life and was really good, so i thought awesome, i'll take him up the tram, its a nice long, steep, run. I didn't think that it was going to be a problem. but when we got up there he freaked out and went down in a patroll sled, god the things guys will say to get into your pants ;)

I find that the best relationships are the ones where both of you have your own life, and already know where your priorities are. That way, if it works out where your lives can fit together, you get a bunch of really great benefits without worrying about constantly mvoing things around to make time to be together.

hmm, my boyfriend skis alot, but I've only ever skiied with him like three times. I guess our preferences don't mingle so well, either that or there's some big secret I don't know about. Either way it's not too bad except that now I live in a different state so his skiing every night means I can't talk to him.
