Surface LL2s (rockered)

i'm thinking about a pair of these for this next season but i cant figure out what size to get. I am 5'7" and used to ride a 179 hellbent, and I dont know how exactly the 179 LL2s measure up to those, because i know all ski brands measure a little differently than one another. (for example I put one of my hellbents up next to one of tim Ds bentchetlers last season ans his 183s were a lil shorter than my 179s)
also i heard these LL2s are alot lighter than bents or ep pros, thus meaning i can handle a 189, but i dont want to make a mistake and get to big of skis, so i need your opinion, im 5'7 and 135lbs. and if they are as fun as everyone says they are, I will be skiing them pretty much as a one ski quiver, mounted dead center.

You'll be fine, get 189s.  179 bents measure 185ish.  189 LL2s measure a bit under 188, and have a higher rise rocker than bents.  Also most people that have skied LL2s at multiple places prefer -2 for everywhere(that's what the reps I talked to liked that I tried many spots, they said best for everything including switch riding).

my 189s are about 3cm(eye balling it) longer then my EPs, and the LL2s are heavyer then my EPs but that may just be the due to me having vist 614s on the EPs and fks 185 on the LL2s

haha it is.  LL2 are 9.5lbs a pair(or just under), EP Pros are 9.9(which is pretty damn light for a 127 waisted ski).  What is your need for FKS 185s?  what din are you at?

aren't you like 135lbs?  But I can't blame you, I needed to put my FKS 155 heels at 12 to keep them from being jittery and that was 07-08.

and 179 bents weigh 11.2lbs(my memory says).

no wonder they felt so heavey and sluggish! haha so even an ep pro would be the way to go if i was looking for a lighter ski thats easier to play around with?

Yeah, but LL2s and EP Pros are completely different,  mrstskier has both so I will let him tell you more..he has a rocker shot comparison in his profile.  EP pros have a slightly larger more curved rocker with full tip at the end(LL2s low profile tip and the end of the rocker) and EP Pros are incredibly soft, while broken in LL2s are medium(by TGR standards, which here people would say stiff).  LL2s have almost 100cm of the flat spot, EPs have a smaller flat spot, are wider and have taper.

145 or 150 lbs, but racing for 9 years teaches you to puch a ski to its limits and with the added stiffness in these over my EPs, they will be pushed MUCH harder, and when i want to step it up from there, ill have my ON3Ps :)

cool thanks, +k for that info, so i think im leaning towards the bent-chetler once again, because im afraid the ep pro will be to soft, and the LL2 will be too stiff, for what i want my one quiver ski to be.

191 GSs measure out to like 195

and need be, ill break out the 211 DH skis with marker comp 30s :)

That was a cute conversation. Back to the original question though, a 189 LL2 would be pretty big at 5'7". I'm 6'2" and 189s fit me just right. I dont know (or care) about how hellbents or ep's or bentchetlers measure up to them, just that you being 7 inches shorter than me I would be wary of getting the same length that i ski...

Cool story.  Heres another one:  The ski is stiff yet turns super easily from the rocker, so it has a massive size difference in people able to ski it.  Go to TGR, people 130lbs to 230lbs all have loved the 189s.  Everybody has said that the 179s are only good if you are a super tiny.

I have a full zero days so far.  I also weigh 160lbs, so I think that somebody who weighs as much as the guy we are talking about not probably knows best, here is somebody that is 5'7" and 130lbs(second post down) who says"Get these and get the 189 even if you are short and light cause they turn like a dream in tight trees, etc."  People also say nobody over 5ft should be on the 179.  here is the thread: http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147346 .  Oh, also I have been told the only difference from 179 to 189 is 10cm of the flat spot underfoot gone, so that will make them less stable.

For people with a few days and a mount of around -2, do these just make nice long, straight turns on groomers?

i think most of the guys skiing on the 189 on tgr, are more experienced skiers, i think alot of kids this year are gonna buy skis to big, and then when january rolls around hopefully i can take advantage and snatch up some good deals when they want to sell um...

ahh still dont kow what size to go for, bentchetlers are way too expensive so i think thats out of the picture.
not being able to see the ski sizes in person, before buying, makes it realy hard to decide! most people are saying just to go for the 189s because they arent much longer than the 179 Hbents(my last ski), but a couple people are saying I would really regret that, and should go with the 179 LL2s.
are the 179 Hbents really that close in length to the 189 LL2s? because if its just a couple-few cms we're talking about, im all over the 189s, first of all, because the 169 Hbents were way too small (tried them before upsizing to the 179s). and second of all, by the looks of LL2's running lengths being almost 10 cm of a difference from Hbents, I dont want a 179 LL2 that is only a few cms longer than the 169 Hbent, know what I mean??


I see what your sayin chazz, but i think im goin with the 189 just because since they are so much lighter, poppier and less weight VS. the Hellbent, i probably wont evven notice them being a little longer than my 179 Hbents.

measuring along the base I got about 188cm on my LL2s.  179 bents are about 186 measuring along the base

i like them, but i want something with a fatter edge so i can hit a rail every now and then. (jjs only have a 1.7 edge)  who knows i might end up with a pair anyways.
