Why all the hating?

about a decade ago i first opened an NS account and for whatever reasons( mostly i was high) i soon forgot my account info and stopped visiting the site. ive been skiing since i was 3 yrs old and quickly caught on to the newschooler movement back when salomon produced the first 1080, ive spent a few summers at CoC in whistler and lived in tahoe for several years. long story short ive seen this sport grow exponentially in poularity and one thing thats bothered me since rejoining NS is all the hating on tanner hall, i understand everyone is entitled to an opinion but like it or not thall is one of the reasons our sport is where it is today, for over a decade he has been on the top of the sport. i guess what i dont understand is why in almost every forum post is there a cut at t-hall? show some respect, ya know what i mean. whether u like his style or not i think its only fair to pay homage to a kid whos been ripping since he was 16. thats all i got so haters feel free to rip on me, but check some videos from the 00-01 season and you might understand what im talking about.

Why all the high claiming? Everyone seems so eager to tell everyone that they've smoked pot, big deal right?

Also, I fail to see the hating you are talking about but I'm sure most people feel like you do regarding Tanners impact on the sport.

Not seeing it.  If anything Dumont gets it more than Tanner.  His rehab thread was a sticky for a long time.   ... and then there's this:

To be honest i haven't seen much hating but do in fact dislike him.

to be fair i dislike the whole Rasta reggae thing in general especiallywhite boys trying it. WE GET IT! you smoke weed, like the colours red yellowgreen and black, dreadlocks and yes bob marley is a hero to you. no need totell us all the time! rant over.

but regardless of this he is still a sick skier!

Dude, what are you talking about?  95% of threads on Tanner end up supporting him and most people love him.

But I half laughed, half was sad at you saying people should 'pay homage' to Tanner since he has been amazing at skiing since he was 16.  Let's set the record straight.  Homage doesn't go to a high school drop out who just is really good at skiing.  Homage goes to people who work hard and lay their life down for others and sacrifice.  Not live a ski bum life.

he (tanner hall) got more flak for the whole "gorilla steeze" shit of the early decade, and some subsequent less-than-eloquent things he has said.
otherwise, I DONT BELIEVE THE OLD MEMBER CLAIM

when i said pay homage to tanner i meant as it applies to the sport, not as a hero of society.  t-hall is just someone i feel who influenced this sport greatly. ive been in the marine corps for five years now and know all to well heros who have laid their lives on the line for others. id just like to see guys like tanner get respect, whether they are liked or not.

pay homage? ha easy professor. and eah braggin about being is is kinda faggy. and no one really hates on t-hall i dont love him but i dont run around saying that. i dont hate him either tho. and i dont see all the hate ur talkin about, maybe 1 thread but watevers.

I think that most people support Tanner and believe he's a great skier. I am one of those people, but if you stand back and look at it, he's basically a high school failure, and the only reason he succeeded in life is due to his skiing ability. That's not hate at all, it's crass, but it's true. He is a great skier, that has pushed skiing very far, and I have all the respect in the world for that.

This.  Mad respect for Tanner's skiing, but a "good role model"?  I don't think so.  You get busted for possession on high school grounds even at close to 2:00 AM; you are not a good role model.  Tanner is a sports celeb.  If you are at a shoot at night, at a high school, with a huge crowd of people watching; it's a pretty safe bet that the cops are going to show.  So you bring your pipe and your bag!?!
