Well NS. I thought I would switch it up, instead of making the common number based celebration post, I decided to make and anniversary based post.
August 18, 2008, I stumbled upon newschoolers.com again off of LINE's website. I thought to myself: "I had seen this website before, it looks pretty sweet, I should create an account." So I did, my second time ever visiting NS, I decided to make an account, cruised around for awhile. Again, I thought to myself: "I have never understood a forum on any other website." Turns out NS was the first forum I would ever come to understand, furthermore leading me to understand the other mountain bike forums I would occasionally partake in. I was now hooked on the forum, I was now a member on NS.
For awhile I used to think people with contributor status were super high up in the website and I always dreamed of working my way up there. Well, after a little bit of work, I was! I definitely made stupid posts in my first couple of months, saw the Chad's Gap thread and took it seriously by telling people that ski patrol did not in fact blow it up. I got chewed out for awhile, then I realized to get a new username, an icon, and bein taking the website a little more seriously after realizing how awesome the community is. There was a thread where I got hated on so bad I was actually feeling depressed and like an idiot for the few days after.
I have bought and sold many things on here. Let me tell you, it was a lot easier than eBay and it felt good working with people who were into the same thing you were. I have met some real nice guys through the B/S/T and have saved a fair amount of money.
I have made tons of friends on here. I get a good laugh every time I come on. I talk to people daily on here. It will be odd knowing I will never actually meet some of these people, but I have made some real good friends. I have learned a lot more about skiing, I have found many more pros, seen all different brands and types of gear. NS opened me up to freestyle skiing. NS changed my whole view on freeskiing.
Now, I leave you all with a thank you. I thank you all. You have given me good laughs, I have been involved in good arguments keeping me excited. Thank you NS. Thanks a ton Doug, Jim, Shmuck and everyone else for keeping the community up and running, helping me procrastinate so I am doing all of my school work late at night, thanks Schmuck for the great stories, and thanks Jim for taking great care of the store, can't wait to see the future merchandise. Keep it up NS. I am stoked for the new logo, site layout, and everything else that is to come from the world's greatest skiing community.
Thank you all,
Jack
