im in jersey and hurricane bill is looking really good right now.. some sights are even saying double to triple overhead because of the long swell period... anyone else stoked for this?

fuck yes! soooo stoked!  ill be in ocean city, nj this sunday morning and we might hit up avalon later that day,  sunday morning hurricane bill is sending us some 11.5 footers @ 16 sec with perfect winds which means some heavy barrels! soooooo pumped!!!!

this swell may actually be too good for NJ. the long swell period will be too much to handle for alot of beaches and will just turn into closeouts. the better places are to go up north to find some points in RI or NH.

I think the ONLY place in NJ that may be able to handle something of this size might be manasquan.  Most beaches won't be able to handle the size at all and will turn into closeouts which would be unfortunate.  As far as OCMD area and Del, Indian River MAY be able to handle it but if it gets as big as the reports have been good luck!

I am also just being a debbie downer because of course the weekend a huge swell comes in I am not able to get away from work.

im in ocean city nj, however i think im gonna go up to the point breaks like matunuck or point judith in RI for this swell. manasquan will be packed, but i still think people wont know how much energy this swell will create in the water cause of the long period. i think alot of people will think twice once the swell hits

Ah dude Spring Lake is where i like to go the most.  I live in HBG pa so normally make it there once a week and then if i do a multi day trip head to del/md to camp and surf.  Spring lake has great breaks most of the time.  I just think this swell may be a bit big for sprink lake and because of the massive jetty at man. it might go off.

im in florida right now, and theres this inlet in my town, with tons of surfers so i joined them. This place is sort f surf mecca they say... Sebastian Fl???? idk, though it qualified for this thread

YUUUHHHH! East Coast. One question, can someone in the local Maine area whose going to be looking at this tell me weather York Maine or Scarborough Maine would get bigger waves from this storm? Thanks. I'll for sure be out there.

for the amount of coast you have (18 miles), nh is pretty good, but not even comparable mass(1500 miles), maine (3478 miles), and rhode island(400 miles).

for those of you who are actually planning on paddling out... do you have boards that can handle a swell that big? i've got a 6'2 santa cruz fish that i've surfed in some pretty decent sized NJ surf, but i honestly don't think its got enough rail/rocker to it to hold dropping in on something double overhead. i might try and get out early sunday morning and see what's up.

your board could probably handle it, especially if the wave isn't steep and barreling. i have a 6 foot wrv chronic (shortboard) that i have only had for a few months and the biggest wave i have surfed with it was probably only 7 feet, but it should handle 11 ft waves decently.

if the waves are not too big/closing, mooose and i will surf scarborough beach or higgins beach, but if they are too big or closing, we will check out pine point if any one around the portland area wants to join us.

i'm sure it will be fine. maybe not the best board choice, but unless you travel it's not worth it to have a step-up or anything dedicated to the rare rare double to triple overhead we're expecting.  definately give it a try, if anything it will be humbling paddling out and witnesses the power of mother nature.  i know i'm ready to get bitched around on my 5'8 rnf twinzer, but i could care less because im going back up to VT for schoool in less than 2 weeks so i have to

I was jsut at Indian river inlet this past week, obvi there was mostly  no waves but some in the mornings at low tide. make sure if you head down there you go at low tide, otherwise its just a straight up shore break right onto the sand. parking cost 8 bucks btw.

Shiiitttt. Hate to post in this thread again, but I am soooo pumped... I have seen beaches around southern maine handle 13+ ft waves without closing and that was without anything close to 15 sec periods...

ok people, i need all your advice right now. i will give ten out of ten for any post responding to this.

I have never, ever, ever, stepped on a surfboard before.

I am very athletic and a decent boardsportsmen...obviously i guess we all are on here

I have wanted to surf for probably ten years, just never have yet.

I am going with a surfing friend (more of an acquaintance though) on saturday, to narragansett i think.



Is it possible for me to learn? Tell me tips. Please im begging you, im so excited i cant contain myself. i want to have a good time. And i need to rent a board. just drop knowledge on me people!!!

Two questions as this is my first year surfing, but I shouldn't have a problem as I've surfed like 10 times this summer, and have hit 5-6 ft waves.

1. Will an Arlberg rental be able to handle some of this surf? My board's in York, and I'm not spending gas to drive down there when the surf will be better in Scarb area.

2. Do you think that Scarborough/Pine Point/Higgins will close? What is most likely not to close?

the simple answer is no.

the only thing you would probably learn is that surfing is hard.  idk what the conditions are going to be like in RI for saturday, but if it's anything like LI is supposed to be, i'd wait it out till about tuesday when you should see some nice clean up conditions that would be good for learning.  if you're totally set on going out though, just know you're putting yourself and others at risk, so definately stay away from anyone else in the lineup.

I wouldn't do it, MAYBE monday but definately not saturday or sunday, its too dangerous, when I first learned it took me two hours to stand up in 2 ft waves.

because those are some pretty big waves to try to learn on

is anybody looking at the tracks for this? swellinfo keeps forecasting bigger and bigger surf (4x overhead for where il be) , but the hurricane tracks keep moving west. i dont want to be in a cat3 hurricane
