CARFAX?

I am in the market for a new-to-me car and I was wondering if anyone had an unlimited CARFAX report subscription that I can exploit.

I know there was another member on here that was offering them, but my attempts to contact them have brought me nothing.

Is there anyone that can help me out?

CARFAX only works if the cops came to the accident so don't rely on just that to make your choice.  My car  has been wrecked (somehow, I drove into an embankment) but my CARFAX is clean.  Just FYI....

Well it was 1 owner, and CARFAX would say if it was serviced after a wreck.

The price seems on point, I just wish I could see the report before I make any more moves.

Lets not get off point.  I am not asking about the legitimacy of a Carfax report, I am asking for someone to break the law and run a number for me, that is all.

ANY NSER WHO WANTS A CARFAX POST THE VIN UP IN HERE AS I HAVE UNLIMITED FOR 30 DAYS FROM TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah and stoked on possibly picking up a jacked up t100 this week.

oh yeah of course, i was just confused.

I know some people can use the vin to break down the details of the car like what model and where it was made and some of the features. That is what the VIN actually describes. I've got the carfax so of course I don't need a vin run I was just confused by whether he was offering something different or the same.

No, the 'accident' wasn't anything special.

Hell, it didn't even break the stock grille.

They guy was REALLY nice too, not a snake at all, just a smalltime car guy who makes an honest buck by selling these cars.  The foggers on it didn't work, nor did the left/right on one of the mirrors, and those were the only electronic things that didn't work.  He is fixing them, going halves on the insurance upgrade, and he said that once I run insurance/cash up to him, the car will be processed and ready by the next day.  Not bad for a hair under $9,000 AFTER plates, registration, and taxes.

The only thing the car needs is some crossbars and I can put my ski rack on and ball out snow style.

carfax is a waste of time, 90% of places don't report any of the work that was done to the vehicle.

Items really only get put in if it's major work to it, or gets in a wreck.

Don't go by carfax, I did on an old jeep I bought. It ended up having a cracked head, and needing a full brake replacement on all 4 wheels. NOTHING in the car fax led me to believe the car was in poor condition. So on top of the $4000 to fix the car, I paid the $25 or w/e it was for useless info.

Do yourself a favor and just drive the car, and ask the owner if you can have a mechanic peep it before buying, if they say no, THEN DON"T BUY THAT CAR.

While that is all true carfax also gives you info like where the car was registered before. Also warnings about odometer rollback, and they show maintenance schedules from dealers that report it.

It's not fully a green light from fastag your right, only an idiot would buy it without driving it and inspecting it by eye all over the place. With that said I like using carfax for the additional info.

Here's an example, I'm buying a 98 toyota t100. I know there was a mandatory factory recall on a steering component on that model truck. The seller has no idea if it was done. I used the carfax to find out what dealer the last owner had it serviced at. Called that jersey dealer and gave them the VIN and told them they serviced the vehicle. They were able to tell me that indeed the recall was performed and the new part was put on that truck.

Your spending 10000 on a car/truck why not drop 30 bones for some extra info, even if it can't tell you everything. Besides in this thread it is costing you nothing as I ponied up the bucks already.

besides, no offense but don't be bitter cause you couldn't spot bad brakes and try to blame it on carfax. it's a vehicle history report not a check engine website.

Yeah, don't preach to me please.  I am sure that my ex-mechanic (Subaru, Chrysler, even self owned at one time) father knows how to buy a fucking car.  The carfax does its job perfectly by supplementing what you can see by eye/feel by driving the car.

Carfax also shows if it had the typical maintenance on it.  For example, say I was buying a 5spd '01 Forester with 145k on it.  I know that pre-'02 Forrys would need a timing belt @ 120k, clutch @ 100k, new headgaskets, and wheel bearings at least once during the life of the car.  These are all things that would be put on a maintence record, and they are things that a Carfax would tell me. 

I think you are the only one to blame for your stupid buy, and you are wasting your time battering carfax when you should look at your car buying technique as a whole.

woah I wouldn't go slamming the guy that bad, most of what he said is true.

carfax might not tell you that it had a timing belt or clutch. or it might it's hit or miss. My biggest thing is I don't wanna buy a car that was titled in lousiana and was flooded in katrina or something like that. I may be buying a car in PA but it spent the first half of it's life in maine or on a beach in florida. Carfax tells you the state it was driven in previously.

Bottom line, they can't tell you everything of course but I think it's worth the 30 bones.

Anybody else need a VIN check???????????? 29 days to go.
