Surface LL2s

Hey so i bought a pair of brand new LL2s and it was such a great deal and i needed a pow ski i couldnt turn it down. I have not mounted them up yet but ive been looking at them lately and wondering did i make the right choice for a pow ski? They have some intresting rocker on them but not thaaat much in the back..But my main question is will they be able to handle the deep pow landing switch or foward? Since they are not as wide as most pow skis ex: EPs Hellbents Bibby Pros etc. The only shots i could find of someone landing switch in pow was Blake Nyman in En Route America and he was stomping everything easily but that could just be the skier. Sooo i would like to hear from some people that have expeirence with this ski landing switch/foward and pow and how they hold up to the competion..

haha thanks dude.. Yeah I rocked the LL2's as my all mountain do everything every day ski and they killed it. They are by far the best ski I have ever ridden. And canyons has been stepping their shit up lately the park last season was soo much fun.

On the real, I couldn't agree more with your stoke on the LL2. Along with all the benefits of skiing a 3-stage-rocker in the pow, the low swing weight of the ski makes it just as versatile in the park. You can pretzel with ease, nose butters become next level shit, landing on something that is 112 under foot feels phenomenal. One thing I really like about this ski is how well it handles in chunder, late day pow, and anything skied up. Although the majority of rockered skis perform incredibly on blower days, very few can ski hard pack and less than favorable conditions as well as the LL2.

fuck yea, i picked up a pair this summer and i couldn't be more stoked to ski them next season. the abrupt rocker deal seemed too gimmicky at first, but after reading reviews here and on tgr it seems like they are amazing skis, as long as they are mounted right. i haven't mounted them yet, but i'm thinking about going -1 from center or so. just a question to clairify things, how exactly do you guys measure the center point? do you stretch the tape measure from tip to tail with no slack, so that the tape measure is suspended above the middle part of the ski, and then mark the center, or do you let the tape measure lay on the whole length of the ski, i.e. so that its touching the whole ski.

"spats" makes a good post near the bottom of the first page about mounting them, and apprently his method worked real well for other users on there. I'm gonna try both measuring the center and his technique and decide where to mount my px12's from there

For real! If I've ever had a "one-ski quiver," this is definitely it. And the low swing weight is phenomenal. I'm only 5'8" and riding the 189s are effortless!

And about the measuring, the way I do it is tip to tail, with the tape measurer completely straight since running length doesn't exist when you're in the air...

yeah thanks for all the help guys..been a while since i bumped this thread but now i got some bindings and im just wondering where i should mount..

mostly park but if there are pow days il probably ski it all day..live in WA this will be probably my everyday ski. Thinking on just going at center? and im a aggressive skier hah.

I know a bunch of people mount them dead center.. I mounted mine center of the rocker points.. which ends up being a bit back from true center but I found that to be the money spot for me.

yeah i rode the hellbents the last couple seasons (as my one ski quiver) and i got tired of them, because if the snow warms up to even slightly slushy contitions, they turn into the most impossible, heavy, sluggish skis to try and play around on . So i think i need something a bit lighter, with more all-mountain capabilities.
they also make my knees sore because there is so much swing weight on them.
this looks like it might be the ski,  was also lookng at the bentchetler, and the ep pro but the EP looks way too similar to the hellbent.
also, are ll2s alot stiffer than the Hbents? because i still want to be able to spread the butter with ease.

I am in the same situation and I'm going true centre. I asked a bunch of the Surface guys and they mostly seem to say.. measure tip to tail, divide by two, mount there.. thats the advice I got.

yes they are wayyy stiffer but do break in just a little bit, and butters are no problem because of the rocker kinks. dont worry about its stiffness holding you back, butters are amazing on LL2's.

mhhhm just probably goin to go at true centre..i feel like most skis it doesnt really matter much in the pow if there true but in the park it does..idk just my observation.

I just got mine mounted, and I put them at the HERE line, which is effective sidecut center. I got em mounted at causwell, and they talked me through how it was a bad idea to measure out dead center on these. There is more tip than there is tail in the rocker on these skis, so if you were to mount at dead center, you would effectively have more tails than tips. This would throw you off balence in the pow, because you'd have less tips, and also you'd wash out when your trying to turn on hardpack too. This really isnt much of an issue with park skis, because they have regular camber for the most part. It's just a special situation when the rocker is kinda weird. Lemme know if this makes no sense.

LL2's or One Life's? Im wondering would they change the mounting points from year to year? seeing how more people mount forward, and definitely not at the THERE line which is wayyyy on back there.

It does make sense, but i know that Blake measures 'dead' centre and so does Landis. I believe Chazz ^ also does too. Everyone that has gone true centre seems to love them there, nobody has complained about problems as above.

chazz told me his are actually 2cm back (is this still right?) which is actually where the HERE lines are, and this is the 2009 Live Live 2, not the One Life. And I'm not sure about where Blake mounts his, everyone at Surface was telling me that they all ride them on the line.. But I've never skied them ya know, so I can't say any thing from experience, this is just stuff I've found out.

To set the record straight, mine are mounted 1 centimeter back from tip-to-tail dead center, which by my measurements is the center of the running surface. So when i ski I am centered over the flat spot, and technically about 1 cm back from the center of the entire ski. My review may be wrong, I believe i said true center as in tip-to-tail, but they are not. Its the center of the flat spot. THAT being said, i would not want them any farther back or any farther forward, but everyone rides differently and thats where I like mine the most.

the lines can be over a cm off from one ski to the other, so measure before mounting.  I think that the "here" line is supposed to be center of the running surface...so that should be good but it's a bit hard to measure since the base is a bit convex or whatever(put yours base to base, and look at the last point of contact, which at least on my pair is on the center of the base while the edges/outside of the base doesn't touch(barely, but on both skis)).  I think that center of the running surface is about 1.5 back from true.  It seems like everybody loves them mounted anywhere from center to -4, though..

Might be right yeh. I think i'll still go true, everyone seems to love them there and I did the same on EP pros, so I was ahead of sidecut and running surface centre on those, didn't seem to affect the performance much, they still did really good on groomed.
