I see that, but there are differet ways to stand out from the more traditional skiers, and you would want to, with our sport being largely about style i think it is good to show that you have your own style or at least can think indipendantly even if not everyone agrees with you.
See what snowboarding has become in this respect, i fully expect that will happen to us, there will be tight pants, baggy pants, gypsys, rockers, gangsers, lampshade steeze, tall tees, bright colours, dull coulors, paterns and so on. Not only will we stand out from the crowd we will stand out from each other as well.
I see it as a matter of time but i dont understand why it hasn't happened already, or how it ever ended up the way it is.
