Okay so what are some good skiing professions that a person could get involved in with out being a pro know what i mean?  What kind of schooling comes with them?

Ski instructor, which I am going to do. Super fun because you get to ski while you work so I don't really consider it work.

work your way up basically. start small such as in a local ski shop. then move to a local distibutor. the regional manager and soon enough you could own everything. thats my plan to take over the world too hehe

gonna have to say Searchbar it.  I looked into the same thing, i swayed away from this choice because If you work in doing that you end up making no money and not being able to ever actually ski.  So choose something else you enjoy that will allow you to ski more.  Just my opinion there

Yeah if you're interested in making a living in the industry a good place to start would be the Ski Resort Operations and Management at Selkirk College in Nelson BC. It pretty much covers A-Z on what makes a ski resort tick, from lift maintenence, grooming, avi control, guest services, risk management, retail, etc. Its a well recognized program by the industry and you get lots of connections and hands on expierence at the college and on field trips. Part of the school is work experience in your 2nd year. Its agood place to start, plus you'll learn other skills like business and stuff that you could apply outside the industry

you're forgetting law. every ski resort and ski-related company (for the most part) needs lawyers.

im going to law school next year and that's the #1 dream

It depends what kind of work you want to do. you could be a sales rep for a ski company, or a ski filmer, or you could own a ski shop, you could work as a park crew, you could become a ski tester, or even go big and try to start a whole ski company or get high up in status in a ski company.

I am a marketing major.  If you do well in school, keep your head on straight and can have a solid resume, a lot of stuff seems to fall in your lap.  But it doesn't due to the dedication it takes.  I am entering my senior year at PSU.  I have work at Ski Roundtop for 4 years 2 as park and pipe and two as the marketing assistant and events coordinator.  Had  a summer job with a local outfitting group and just got an Internship with HERCO (Hershey Company in the marketing department).  Send emails, have a resume and market yourself.

better yet, start bussing and waiting tables. bartending and waiting are the easiest way to ski everyday.

Take an OEC class, and join volunteer ski patrol. Your first year [candidate year] will be a ton of work, and you won't be getting paid, other than in free and discounts on mountain. After you do that, work on all the other qualifications you need to become a pro patrol, including explosives handling. A few years, and you could be the guy dropping bombs in closed areas, snagging the first two runs of the day. One after you bomb, the other after you come back to drop the rope.

be a shaper in the park. if you dont have a park, then convince the resort how important a proper park is, and how many thousands of NSers it would attract.
that dont throw off much dough though, so work as a bar tender in a pub or so. that is my plan for the last few and comming winters
