Luckily there are still lots of people, also Newschoolers, like you and me who are still able to acknowledge and enjoy sharp and entertaining lyricism and high quality production in the beautiful music-genre that is hip-hop.

But to answer your question I shall remain clueless since it is also mysterious to me. How can it be that there are so much crappy hip-hop these days polluting the minds of many?

My only guess is that the majority just never take the time to explore from where this music actually descends from.

That or either the people who likes artists such as the one referred to are just not fortunate enough to posess the ability to tell the difference between what is good and what is shit.

i feel your pain. there is so much bullshit out there that unless you know where to look you would never even know good hip-hop still exists. unfortunately most (not all) most of the newer generation/s only know this type of hip-hop. im all for a good party song and i like that hip hop has many genre's (party, lyrical, political, gangsta, underground, etc...) but shit like this is well........silly. we can thank MTV & Hot 97 for promoting this crap.

the good stuff is out there. and i think that hip hop is def making a comeback. i think that some people are getting tired of the poppin bottles, ridin 24's, auto tune crap. a reality check is def in order.

The reason you're forced to listen to this garbage is because you won't turn off the radio or MTV. Make some decisions on your own and find the music YOU like, not the music you're told to like.

Rap these days, one could argue, is better than ever. Music is being released on pretty much a daily basis online and artists are ever more willing to be unique in their musical voice. You must not being paying enough attention if you think that's all that is out there.

Also, next time you try and show by comparison how crappy today's rap is, don't use Immortal Technique as an example of what's good. Sure he had a really good album but for what it's worth he's nothing compared to most rappers. It only shows how musically immature you are.

Not trying to be mean, but it's a major pet-peeve of mind when people go shouting that there isn't any good music (especially rap) these days. If you'd like I'd be more than happy to point you in the direction of some amazing hip hop that you'd love.

Words out of my mouth. I mainly spin electro house, breaks, and progressive, and I know good hip hop exists. Drives me insane when people say omg hip hop is dead!!1111111 with the rise of home recording studios and production getting cheaper then ever to get in to, there is tons of good indie hip hop out.

On point... i think hip-hop is really sorta flourishing right now. Nothing against 90's rap cause its great, but honestly if you can't find any good new hip-hop your probably not looking hard enough.

Rap is what you make it. You can say new rap suck because of soulja boy,OJ Da Juice, T pain. Or you can listen to Kid Cudi, Charles Hamilton, Slaughterhouse, Drake, Black Milk. Its up to you, what you want to listen to.

BUT, I will say this. Soulja Boy has my respect, not as an artist but as a business man. After becoming good friends with his DJ and meeting Soulja Boy I understand him now. He knows he is making shit music. But he knows hes gonna get paid for it. Maybe he doesnt have any integrity as an artist, but he is a damn good business man.

because so called "artists" put out shit music not to be creative but to make money. in my opinion that is the definition of a sellout.

im not the guy that listens to this crap and complains about it. i avoid it. but its sad that this has become the face of hip hop when there are so many better choices out there.

ringtone rap. every genre has a mainstream element to it. I dont even see ringtone rap and hip hop as the same thing and they're not. Madlib has more in common with Gillespie than Soulja Boy. It's not that they're in different leagues, they're completely different sports. The good shit is out there

Seriosuly. Drake is the next big thing. So far so gone was great, and he is working on his studio album. Aside from music, in 10 years he wont even rap. He will be a famous actor, he is so well rounded.

He is also single handly changing lil wayne. Over the past few months Lil Wayne returned to his old self and put out some very good songs because of Drake.

yo, listen to Kings of Nazareth, skull and bomb society, and sands of eternity. you've probably never heard of them, but their deep as farakhan and keeping hip-hop real from the underground right now.

seriously though, MOST mainstream rappers have decent stuff, its just not on the radio.

Ludacris, Bun B, Jay-z, Kanye, Cam'ron, the clipse, etc (wait for it) even lil'wayne...all these mainstream artists have good songs. Some people act like snobs though, and when an artist is actually SUCCESSFUL, they player hate the shit out of them. i used to be like alot of kids in this thread, who only listen to music that has a message behind it, or is making some kind of commentary on how shitty hip-hop is right now. then i started listening to what actually sounds good. who cares what their actually saying, if it flows, i dont give a shit personally.

lil wayne has about four good songs imo. but what you havelisted there sir is a pretty good list. the clipse is doin big things right now..I love his new single "Im Good" with pharrell. And also Kanye IMO will go down as one of the greatest rappers of our time. Dude is huge right now. Just did a shoe for NIKE...(first non athlete to have a shoe with them) and stuf with LV..but my favorite "mainstream" rapper right now is common..listen to his shit.

I don't get your comparison of Soulja Boy and Immortal Technique as "then" and "now". You do realize there was just as much shitty mainstrream music when the Immortal technique track came out as there is now. There is also as much underground music as there was then, you don't know about it though because it's not super hyped by suburban white kids like the ones that populate this site.  It takes a while for that to happen, so in five years you could really be making the exact same comparison.  Se what I'm saying mannn?
