For the morons who accuse town meeting protestors of being conservative thugs....look at your cronies before passing judgement
The double standards in this country are astounding, and the media representation, fueled by Obama's desperate attempts to counter growing opposition to healthcare reform, is downright embarassing. Click the link.
im not talking about only healthcare reform here, so bear with me.
the whole birther movement. i dont really need to go into this here, lets be honest, if he was a white guy would this even be a fringe discussion? no.
the whole sotamayor bullshit. it wasnt about her "reverse racism", not for a second. convenient how the only people bitching about her so called reverse racism, which it blatantly wasnt, were old white guys. accuse her of racism, and hide behind that to avoid exposing their own racist goals. just listening to them awkwardly talk about the whole race thing was awkward and obvious what their true intentions were.
healthcare. a large portion of the people screaming at these rallies? old white folks. they already receive government healthcare, in the form of medicare. so what are they bitching about? how they dont want OTHER people to have it. those other people are of course the poor, who are also overwhelmingly minorities... hmmm im sure thats just a coincidence... NOT.
these attacks portraying him as some sort of radical anti american psychopath are the worst against any president in a long time. rather convinient that they happen to take place against the first black president dont you think?
I think the health care truth movement is starting to gain some ground. There was a lot of misinformation about reform and the only motive I can see is to discredit and destroy the democrats. What a sad world we live in that our representatives would rather see this country destroyed than read and understand a bill. Shame on the people who spread these lies.
And Fuck Sara Palin telling everyone that the bill includes Death Panels. I know she can barely read but she needs to shut the fuck up.
Also to get back on thread topic I don't think anyone is saying that the people protesting health care don't have the right to. If they believe in what they are protesting then I am fine with it. But in a lot of cases it seams to me like people don't understand the issues and are protesting because they still believe, thanks to the dirty campaign tactics, that Obama is a Muslim spy, socialist, racist, and wants to kill your grandma while simultaneously taking away your guns.
So they are not protesting health care reform, which they would most likely benefit from, they are protesting their fears stoked on by the good people of Fox news.
That is a little different than people protesting a war founded on misinformation, poor planning, worse execution, and a giant civilian and American service men and women death count.
If race really doesnt have any play in this, then why is there a huge movement by these same idiotic people making fools of themselves at town halls that Obama was born in Kenya. That has to be one of the most racist things ive heard. Not only has everyone seen his birth certificate, his birth was published in two damn newspapers.
You conservatives are digging yourselves a hole that you will likely not be able to get out of. I can see a split in the very very near future that will hopefulyly silence crazies like palin
Shit you must have a bad short-term memory. Who was the preceding president? I'm not expert in flak, but Bush seemed to have taken a whole bunch more than Obama.
Holy shit, look at all those WHITE, RACIST NAZIS ATTACKING BUSH. TOO BAD BUSH ISN'T AFRICAN AMERICAN
The birther movement is fueled by those who are anti-US, whatever realm that may be. Color does not matter. There is not a scrap of evidence to suggest Obama was born anywhere else than Hawaii, but these people fuel off of... fueling on (in terms of power and money) iditots who are willing to beleive in contrived speculation. The fucking idiot at the head of the "movement" (more like a heard of fucking retards) is Philip Berg. He, if you didn't know, also wanted Bush and Cheny impeached because he was/is also a prolific 9/11 truther. He thinks they are war criminals, demogaugs. He also wanted supreme court justices (INCLUDING WHITE PEOPLE OMG) to be disbared, because he is a fucking tool.
Sotomayor has been, for a lack a better word, persistent in her rather Latino/Minority-centric views. Granted, they aren't really as extreme as maybe a hannity or limbaugh would make them out to be, but her history of racially uneasy comments hasn't been a one time affair. And I'm saying that as somebody is completely politically incorrect. I'm only stating this because you think because you think it's just old white people holding her down.
Also, you're quite oblivious to the anti-Sotomayor support by minorities. The problem is, that, historically and currently, latinos vote very liberal. But what about formery commerce secretary Carlos Gutierrez? He was proud, as a Latino, to see a latino sworn into the supreme court, but vehemenetly disliked her politics. BUT HE WAS BORN IN CUBA!! OMG
Oh, and what of Clarence Thomas. Isn't he, like, a justice on the supreme court? What about the democrats that didn't vote for him in 1991? They're racist, too, right? But what of the republicans who voted for him in that case?
Healthcare... you just don't quit, do you? Obviously the people are racist because they don't want this healthcare reform. Lets look at this quickly.
Over 250 milltion people have health insurance. There are 250 caucasians in the United States....
~89% of those that do like their coverage. Obama (mistakenly) says if you like, "you get to keep it". T
Out of the 47 mil who dont have it:
~10 million make over $75,000 a year
~11 million are illegal immigrants.
much of the rest are youthful adults. Some are poor.
Now, the house bill would take years to it get implemented. So the rush is extra foolish. It became a firestorm issue only because of the haste. I personally think it could've been feasable that it would pass had they waited. But they fucked it up. Rasmussen shows Obama's approval amongst voters at its lowest ever, and that voters actually "trust" the GOP more with healthcare. While the lead is tiny, that margin was double digits only a couple of months ago... I just say this because obviously Rasmussen didn't take into account thay they're old white people who are racist and don't want to give healthcare to others.
I think what you fail to see is the astronomical burden that this sort of program would place on the country. Other programs, like Medicare, aren't the model one would want to use. That program has begun to lose money, but that doesn't matter to the government. To be fair, with a program in place, Medicare needs a massive reform, because it, too, is a broken system.
You're seeing people pissed at their representatives, from the house and senate. Their frustration lies with them and Obama's persistence, haste, and scope. I think it is extremely foolish for you to consider that racism or anything that would be degraded to something mob-like. There are foolish people, but... you know, there are on "your" side too. you're taking this fucking idiotic approach that "shit, tons of people don't like this, they are rallied by the big insurance companies, they are a mob, and of course, sicne we have the first black president, they're obviously racist"
Oh, so this is from fox news, so it's obvious staged, but a black conservative beaten at a town hall meeting? By your prerogotive that seems only applicaple to your views, I could simply label all Obama supports as violent, union thugs. But I don't, because as I said earlier, their are exteremists and fringies on either side.
so, like these people (as I alluded to in an earlier post) thought that people are more important that property. Would it be a stretch for me to say those that view health care as a right that the goverment must provide to be humane, but consequently dramatically increases taxes to do so, as equivilent? I would so no, but your displayed logic would say yes.
And I still get bizarre looks from people when I tell them that I just dont like getting into politics.
Boths sides are making asses out of themselves, but the Republicans who are outright making shit up about death camps and forced abortions have created a new tier of political assholery. I really would be holding my sides every day watching FOX and CNN if it wasnt over something so serious.
^ It would be such a huge mistake for the SEIU or any liberal organizations to provoke violence in these protests, the republicans and libertarians are the ones with the guns.
Maybe this is why that protester brought a gun to the town hall the other day, to protect himself and others from union thugs.
I don't even know what to think anymore. No party has an accurate plan. One party wants to see everything about me destroyed and are fear-mongering christian war pigs, the other side are nonsensical retarded hippies who don't keep promises and have way too much time on their hands and not enough facts.
as far as bush protestors, absolutely some got out of hand. but to imply that the protests against bush were as unwarranted, unfounded, and irrational as those against obama is pretty ridiculous. theres a huge difference between protesting a multi billion dollar war, and the birthers/deathers/other irrational idiots that im talking about. granted, i am certainly quite biased here, but i think you see where im coming from. that being said, absolutely some people got out of hand in the bush protesting department, but its pretty apparent it had a totally different drive behind it.
the birther movement may be STARTED by a guy who isnt racist, i really dont know that much about Berg but ill take your word for it. however i would argue that a lot of his supporters are exactly the sort of folks that also woudlnt vote for obama because hes black, and would hate him because of his race. i dont really have any actual proof, but just think about the average birther and i think youll get my point. are they retarded? fuck yeah. but i would say racially biased as well.
sotamayor. id disagree on her racially uneasy comments. id say that most of them IN CONTEXT (which im fairly sure todays media actually doesnt know what those words mean) show that she is very proud of her heritage, but i would not really say to the level of racism. as far as gutierrez, clearly, again, not all people were racist who didnt like her, but i think there was some racial motivation behind the way she was slammed by some of the media, as well as some republican members of congress. clearly not all of it, but some.
as far as clarence thomas. hmm theres a combination of things. again, i dont have a lot of background knowledge on his confirmation, but fuck yeah there were probably some racist democrats. shit racism is still everywhere, its not solely in the hands of republicans. HOWEVER, again, much like bush, the protests against him seem much more well founded (and again, i certainly have some bias here, considering my views). he had FAR FAR FAR less experience than sotamayor, and then there was the whole anita hill thing. idk what was going on with that, whether it really was the "high tech lynching" he called it, or whether it had some legitimacy. i would also hazard to say there was some racism (in a way) in his appointment in the first place. a case of "oh shit, we have to replace the black guy with a black guy, lets pick him". racism in the form of trying to be un-racist, if you will.
im not really sure what your trying to say with your statistics there? not to mention numbers are frequently bullshit. (not calling out yours specifically, just in general, statistics can be made to say anything)
absolutely this is being rushed, i agree there. and i was actually happy in some ways when it didnt pass before the recess, however i was also concerned about exactly this, the time it would give complete fucktards like palin and beck to rally up mobs of idiots who dont know shit but will follow anything if its coming out of the mouth of a republican.
finally to the staged fox news protestor bullshit. first of all, a funny anecdote that i heard on MSNBC so i doubt its true, but did i hear he was asking for donations to help pay for his medical costs? if so, the irony lol. however, i agree, not all people who disagree with this healthcare reform are racists, i never said that. i am so happy when i see the normal, concerned people asking legit questions in a townhall, and then actually fucking listening to the answer. absolutely there are fringies on both sides, that tend to come out whenever a president of the opposite party is in power. however i stand by my statement that a lot of this fringie bullshit, that sadly many americans take at face value, has some racial bias behind it.
