Sup all,

So yeh the site has not been touched in a while, but that does not mean we are not trucking along.

Since the site launch we have made some big advances.

1. Ben Perry has made Small Creatures Game Designs LLC the first ever game studio in the entire state of Vermont

This is extremely exciting news, not just for him and the state, but for the game and any future projects as well. Vermont is an extremely open and supportive state for new businesses. He is working hand in hand with some of the states small business planners to sort out a solid growth path for the studio. (This is why you seldom see him here on the forums).

2. We have paused development on the PC/Mac version of the game (don't worry it's still getting made) and have focused all our resources on something we think you all will dig quite a bit. We can't say much right now on it, but expect a preview (yes a FULL demo video) in the next few months. And expect something fully playable this winter...

3. We have brought on new staff who will be devoted to JL full time, coders/artists/sound techs/and designers.

4. We will be overhauling the site when we are ready to show the world what we are working on currently, and we think you all will be pretty stoked on it. Many of your comments from the Jib Life Cult on how we can improve the site have been taken into account.

5. Future updates, look out for some impressive new content early this fall, and some great news from Ben himself. Also get stoked for even more contests, random swag giveaways, and so much more


We are stoked to see consistent visits to http://www.jiblife.info and the constant support of everyone on and off NS. If your not a member of the Cult yet and would like to be let us know, it's open to anyone to join, and we are happy to help if you have questions.

Been getting a lot of questions on that, might be worth explaining why we haven't.

For the PC/Mac/Console version of JL we are working on a dynamic snow system for the game.

This is why that scene is without snow. When the system is ready we will be adding in some base snow pieces (i.e. models that will never move) and then adding the system on top of that. The idea is to try and achieve a realistic snow simulation in the game with varying types of snowfall, from thick flakes, to tiny crystals, even rain...

i'm imagining a day in winter where it's raining outside, and jiblife's dynamic weather is linked to current conditions, cant catch a break in video games or real life

but seriously, that's a pretty bad ass model

to be the voice of opposition:

all i see is that u registered an LLC, which, i suppose is a step in the right direction, yet at the same time u say you are halting production on the only product you're working on, to start on another secret project? even tho you say u have a full staff of coders and designers etc...

what i take this as is that your full staff of coders doesnt know shit about software engineering but are good at flash and ur planning on making a flash demo or something...

id like to know (being a programmer) what are ur programmers backgrounds, specialties, how much experience in game programming, or dynamics in general, because even tho it sounds cool to have snow that is different sized flakes, and real and shit, notice that even on the highest gen consoles out now, that would be an absurd task to take on, and actually quite pointless, since u can model the snow how u need and then add dynamic effects to it after...

We have NO plans to make a flash based version of Jib Life.

The Project Lead on JL was coding games before computer games where invented, was considered one of the top professors in general game code, and most recently headed up the entire gaming division of one of the US's top university's for video games and media.

The Senior Code/CFO of the studio, is in the same boat, coding since before computer games where introduced, and since then basically laid down the foundation of what we call MMO games today, before there was even such a term. Also founded and headed up one of the top gaming networks in the world today.

Below them we have 3-4 varied level coders, some interns still in college, some out of college looking to get hands on, and some with prior industry experience.



More details on the team and their history/industry experience will come in future site updates, so we can understand the nay saying, but you might want to actually check out the game site before making anymore opposing comments, had you read it over you would see both the senior level coders are listed with a brief bio of their experience.

Thank, and by all means oppose us, we don't expect everyone to be on board with what we are doing (plus it gives me a reason to flame kids on NS)

more power to em if thats the case but u cant even begin the fathom the amount of resources and talent needed to get licensing to put out a console product.

as for your site, i did go to it, and it just said you were in 'negotiations' with your two major devs, which still leads me to doubt anything substantial, but like i said, im not here to hope that u fail, i think its a sick project, i just know how difficult it is to get a game off its feet, so best of luck to ya


as for the post above about ps3 and xbox, ill say what from ive read and seen first hand that its possible, and actually not too difficult of a task to get a game on xbox through the community development program, but still incredibly difficult to get anything whatsoever on PSN, and a whole other level to get a licensed xbox360 or ps3 title, we're talking years of game development experience, prior releases, or a completed PC version of the game with marketing strategy and an entire presentation to be made to convince them it will sell.

Yep,

It is quite a task and costs $$$$$ to do.

As for their coding before computer games, there where still games that had boards/chips in them, like toys etc, those all require code to work. Just not software in the traditional sense.

If that makes more sense.
