Every Day is a Saturday & Deadmau5

A few days at Lollapalooza I had the ability to talk Deadmau5 and ask him about Every Day is a Saturday.  I asked what his thoughts were about it, yet he had absolutely no idea what I was talking about.  This shocked me and made me very curious as to how PoorBoyz could use the song without his knowledge.  Could they have gone through his agent, or manager? 
Just some thoughts.

I am sure that Deadmau5 doesn't deal with the legal rights to his songs, and either his label or manager deals with it. He doesnt need to know who uses his songs, just that they pay for them. I wonder what he would think about skiing to his music

They probably didn't get rights for it, it's just a teaser, no one is paying for the teaser so it's just like any other online video.

Ya I was thinking something along the lines of this, but he also seemed like he was really invested in his music and would be proud to see everything and everywhere it is being used.

i had the chance to talk to Wolfmother a couple years back and they had no idea their stuff was in a couple ski movies.

my brother is friends with two of the guys from Passion Pit and was talking to them in April after the Lollapalooza line up had been announced and they had no idea they were on it.

most bands just focus on playing and leave the rest of the stuff to their business staff (manager, lawyer, and label).

btw, i was there to watch Glitch Mob, Boyz Noize, MSTRKRFT, and Deadmau5... epic night, that's the only way to put it.

My dad is a musician, but much more small time haha. And from my understanding, every time his song is used in a show, movie or even played on the radio it goes through a company that protects musician's rights and he gets a check from them every month and a list of when and by who the songs were used. Someone like Deadmau5 would only be on the check receiving end of it and not have to worry about giving the rights to something like a ski movie trailer.

I had the chance to experience Deadmau5 with Crazyfuck, and i would have to reccomend that all you ns'ers out there should go to a deadmau5 show if possible, one of the most fun sets i've ever been to.

music rights & licensing are handled by record labels, not the artists. i know that lars ulrich allows TGR to use metallica songs for free in their movies because he's a big skier, but that's obviously an exception haha

not true, i remember talking with mike wilson years ago and he was telling me about how msp would have to pay thousands among thousands for certain songs by certain bands

I dont know about that one. I could be wrong but I thought Rage was sued for using MGMT for there trailer song last year.
