Long skis comparable to bacons?

so ive decided to finally bite the bullet and buy a fatter pair of skis to make a multiple ski quiver.  after some research, i decided that i wanted bacons.  they have the flex i want, width i want, and sound like an all around fun ski.  but im 6'2 and 190lbs, and i think that 182 is a little too small for me, considering im a fairly strong skier.  so i was wondering what skis would fit me well that are like the bacons, but longer?  LL2's? k2 seths? looking for a little advise here.  i plan on skiing as much pow as i can get in on the southern east coast, and i want to make a trip out west at least once this year.

i don't think you should be too worried about a 182. i ski bacons and i'm almost 6'1... just about 50 pounds lighter. to look at other skis, hellbents are reaaaaally fucking fun. my friend's dad is a vp of k2, and he (my friend) got to go to hood and test all the 09/10 factory team skis. he said hellbents are sick in park, and everyone knows they slay pow. so if you're worried, you could always go hellbents.

from my pov, bacons are a lot better all mountain (i can carve like a fucking gs ski), but bents are better for pow. either way, neither are better than the other in a huge way, but for skiing in CT, you might find bents to be significantly harder.

my vote, bacons for ct. they're not too small, and they're suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper legit!!! hahahaha. pm me with any questions

Liberty Double Helix 190.  It's a bit fatter at 121 underfoot, but it's such a fun ski

Obsethed in a 189 would do it as far as being close to bacons(I like Obsethed more everywhere).  LL2s are a step better for sure in pow performance from the big rocker, but might not be ideal for New England.  How much snow(in inches) do you get at your resort on avg. each year?

^^ not a lot.  idk how much it is, but we get like 3 or 4 pow days a year (6 in at best)  hopefully ill make it up north to vermont and new hampshire more often this year though.

also thinking about atomic blogs (skinnier bentchetlers, it think its like 121 waist) and moment night trains or bibbys.

I think Obsetheds would be a good choice for that few pow days, since they are so versatile.  Blogs are pintail(nearly) and aren't a skinnier bent chetler, they are a different ski.  something like 150/125/130 I think.  Moments(bibby and NT) are again better for somewhere like PNW, but either of those would work for you.  Are you planning on riding these switch?  if not that widens your search.

yeah, i ride switch a lot, and like to do a lot of pow jibbing (nose butters, little 180s and drops and stuff), so i want it to be something soft and ride switch well

yeah, thats exactly what i was thinking.  at my height, theyre not too short, but for my weight, they would be waaayy to soft and short.

That is the Atlas.  The Blog is 134-110-126 and it is a narrower version of the Bentchetler with slightly less rocker.  But I think it only comes in a 177.  Here is a "review" on it.

If you're looking essentially for a longer pow ski that isn't a beefy charging ski, on3p Caylors come in a 191, so that's an option. Bacons ski a bit longer than their length though anyway. Have you demo'd them?

nomensteven makes a good point.  Personally I don't like soft skis, which Obsetheds are a bit soft yet still were fun and versatile in my mind.  I am 6'1" and 160-165.  My bad on the Blog, that could be good if it comes in a 186+ length.  Chetlers felt too short to me, kept me from really wanting to buy them.  189 Live Lifes might be good for you(LL1 not LL2) because they are a good width and have enough rocker to kill in pow, but with less rocker than LL2s and a few mm camber they will be more versatile in the east.

no, where i live, we dont get many chances to demo stuff.  the closest i got to demoing a ski was the nordica zeroes, and the guy wouldnt let me because "i was a twin tipper and he didnt want me messin his skis up", so i vowed not to  buy nordicas because of their shitty rep.

did you say it has to be cheap?  I forgot about SOLLY SHOGUN.  Cody Townsend was using (191s?) at Hoods public park two days ago and killing it on them.  I think they were flat camber with a low profile tip and tail rocker.  He was practicing switch takeoffs, and they bit of tail rocker seemed to avoid any catching.  He let me hand flex them and they hand flex on the stiffer side(stiffer than new LL2s) but the bamboo is poppy.  Get them in a 191 and you will love it.  He was asked about them a ton and seemed to enjoy talking about them and kept saying how poppy and versatile they are.

Hmm, with that few powder days, you might want to just get something in the 100-110 waist range. You do NOT need anything wider than that for East Coast snow.

i know i dont, but it would be nice to have it, in case i go out west or for up north and stuff. and plus, would an extra 10 mm really make that much of a difference?

190 bibby probably, i found bacons pretty soft, idk if you like that but as an ec skier who makes trips out west i like something stiffer, if they made jj's in a 195 i'd recommend those but i think they'll be too short. the 190 bibby is a stiffer model so it might be awesome

^ yes, 10 mil is a pretty different ski, even at these wonderfully girthsome proportions.  It makes the difference between skis like the line blends and bacons.  IMO, blends are just about the best do-it-all EC ski, and they certainly won't sink if you go deep out west.  If you only intend to take them out occasionally on the beautiful but rare EC pow day or spring slush and ride them primarily out west, then bacons or a 110-120 mm ski might be more fun. 

You will find bacons really fun to play around with, but if you are a charger in crazy JH chutes, and with your size, they may get squirmy.  A couple others that are a bit longer and about the same dimensions- 4frnt VCT, Atomic thug or maybe the new Blog, or the rossi s6.

For referance, I ride the SFBs a good deal in VT and NH, often with freshies.

i ride huge skis on the ec, it's personal preference, it's not like because he lives on the ec he can't have skis fatter than 110, i find them more fun to ski anyway than narrower skis, the fatter you go the more playful they get

I don't know much about fat skis but I heard pretty good things about those Surface New Lifes.

im gonna look into last years live lifes and this years new lifes or that symmetrical rocker fat one, i forget the name. thanks for all the good replies.

YES!!! unfortunately, 10mm makes a HUGE difference. 10 more mm at the waist provides a massive amount of float, and degrades "iceability" by a significant amount, because of the added distance between boot and edge.

Those, Rubies, Alpha 1s, ANTs, and more were all sold out before that sale.  They just felt like leaving them up to get our hopes up before smashing us down.
