Ways to get my parents to let me go camping.

me and my friend have been planning to go camping for a while and today my parents said i couldnt go because they wouldnt let my sister go camping with freinds until she was a junior in high school. im a sophmore and i really want to go but i guess they dont trust me and my freind enough. im not planning on doing any drugs or drinking either. just seeing the rest of california

my freinds 18 and im almost 16.

i need some reasons to get them to let me go

Tell them that if they don't let you go now you will be unprepared for later when everyone is drinking and fucking and doing drugs. This will be a good time with a buddy or two, not like there are hundreds of rowdy teenagers like my school's grad camping weekend where over 10 girls lost their v-cards and one girl slept with 4 dudes...

Be sarcastic. Just be like, "Yeah mom and dad, me and my buddies want to go camping and it will be so much fun. We've got a keg, enough drugs to keep Tanner Hall happy and a couple cheap hookers. It's gonna be a blast!"

damn man sounds like you've got the chain around your neck like a dog. I was out fucking climbing shit with people my parents only kind of knew when I was like 14, and they thoroughly encouraged it.

I would just try to sit down with them, and try to get them to be as specific about their specific concerns about your proposed trip. This generally doesn't work since most parents are stubborn as shit, but even so, it may give you some insight into future plans you may have. If they do start to open up, you can try to alleviate their concerns and inhibitions, especially if you work out an agreement of trust based on some mutual parameters. I was able to convince my parents to let me miss school for two weeks to go skiing (in a school that attempts to withhold credit after only 3 abcenses) because i did all the research I needed. Granted, that was a very wild circumstance, but I was able to disarm their misconceptions.

Do make them realize, cautiously and with respect, that you will be 18 before they know it, and your ability to make decisions will heavily rely on your experiences, and not necessarily their guidance. A trip can be beneficial in several ways. It builds up your ability to handle situations as well as just experience life. It also provides an opportunity to build their trust in you.

I would do this. If it doesn't work, and you haven't told them the exact days, just lie and say you are spending the weekend at another friends house. You will probably get caught, but hey, you might not.

Explain to them that this is the exact problem with youth today, the detachment from the outdoors...this is exactly what they are starting to do with "problem" kids now and under underprivileged inner city kids...they take them out into the wild where you can actually hear yourself think, and you actually have to learn some survival skills...start a fire, set up a camp, provide yourself shelter...even if coleman products do it all for you...

serioustime. if you look online there's a lot of literature on the internet explaining the positive correlation between a child's exposure to nature and how the kid turns out. There have been a few groups i have worked with to get more greenery around schools for this exact reason, kids who play in the dirt instead of concrete to better. also, cash in on the whole eye opening coming of age cliche bullshit, that'll do you good.

Tell them that there is less than a month left for Summer, and you would like to enjoy it in the purest way possible.  If you really aren't doing drugs, (I would smoke several blunts if I was camping) then there is no reason for them  to keep you home.

Speaking of home, tell them what you are "Just gonna do" when you don't go camping.  Say "I'm just gonna do nothing if I can't camp. Do you really want to coop me in the house on a beautiful summer weekend when I could be camping?"

Grr... I get more mad with every word I type here, that's how outraged I am.  Camping is such a 'good-old-fashioned' way to have fun in the summer, it's not like you're 15 and going to a music festival and candy flipping, YOU'RE GOING CAMPING WITH FRIENDS.

it's probably becuase you still choose to ride dodge ridge and once you make the big boy step and start skiing squaw, alpine, or north* then maybe they will understand that the big boy is coming out and you can start handling fire and pitching a tent on your own.
