call me a hater, a capitalist pig, or a business man, but consider this:
I just watched 4bi9's trailer, and I thought the skiing was dope. Those guys have a very unique style of both skiing and attitude that I think is not only a breath of fresh air (read: MSP a few years ago and even now somewhat), but good for the industry. They are making skiing more availible and fun for the general masses.
But there is a problem: larger companies like Poor Boyz, TGR, and MSP dominate the film industry and sales because they have larger budgets from past sales and sponsorship dollars. Don't get me wrong: that is not necessarily a bad thing! (Poor boyz is by far my favorite company, i've been a loyal buyer for about 3 years now.) BUT...
I feel that in order for the sport to progress further, and for these new athletes to have the financial support (travel, expenses, not just salary), film companies like 4bi9 and others need to consider formally organizing and SIGNIFICANTLY investing in their company. This means proposing a business plan to banks and applying for LARGE loans. This would allow them to significantly improve their filming equipment, product distribution, and sponsorship draw. By improving their product, smaller film companies will grow because SPONSORS and CONSUMERS will want to support their product and athletes more and will consider a larger investment in that companies future.
Just something to consider. It hurts to know that so many of these smaller companies are losing filmers to larger ones and that the smaller companies are folding too. I know this isn't the best example because their movie is free, but look at voleurz. they got some GREAT footage, show a very "core" film by the looks of their trailer, and yet, they are sponsored by COORS light (which is so sick!)
