mouthguards?

how many of you guys wear mouthguards on rails? i noticed anthony had one in 1242. seems like a good idea so i'm going for it

i dont its not needed i think for rails but i cant member who is it but he uses mouthguards on massive cliffs but watever u wanna use it for

it's a really good idea, because it will help prevent concussions. i doubt many people do it though.

i wear one occasionally. i wear it racing and i wear it when on BC booters and stuff when im hucking bigish... and occasionally in the park. basically if i think im going to eat shit. i lost some teeth and brain cells last year... and my short term memory... what?

i use it whenever i remember mine... i have one in every coat/pant pocket i have... if your doing something that you could fall on your face or hit your head, put it in...

i wear mine on rails always because i have found that my teeth hit together hard everytime i land on a rail. it could be just me though. i also use it when i am going big in our little parks in the east

always a good idea to wear one, it reduces the risk of getting a concussion by something like 60%, plus if your teeth hit together theres less chance of then chipping

mouthgaurds for big cliffs, sometimes pipe, cuz that just sucks to get a wall in the mouth and bite your tongue off. not so much rails tho.

but kneepads are an even better idea...

yea, mouthgaurds are a really good idea. Wear it the whole time you are on the slpoes. You never know when it will come in handy. I just got one because of a friend losing some of his teeth. Spending all that money on braces when i was younger will not go to waste because of some studpid rail or cliff. Also, full body pads are a good idea too. For christmas i got pads from knee to neck. It is a vest and shorts and they have saved my life more than once this year. Just the other day i should have broken every rib on my left side by falling extremely hard on ice, but it didnt hurt at all because of the pads. Get em at www.skeletools.com They are really great.

I don't trust myself anymore so i wear mine whenever I'm jibbing or huckin off of cliffs. I know what it feels like to smack yourself in the mouth without one! I've ended up with killing one of my front teeth, fracturing both front teeth and ending up with 7 stitches in my lower lip from fucking up and not wearing my mouthguard. It's a worthwhile investment! Trust me, I know!

They aren't much help on rails, but I carry mine in my pocket and wear it for sketch cliffs so if my knee hits me in the face I won't bite my tongue off. My dad's friend is a dentist so I've got a custom made one that I can talk with and you can't tell its on.

mouthguards dont prevent the loss of teeth, just chips and lesson the chance of concusions, and unless you think your going to get hit from the bottom of the jaw upwards they arnt going to do you very much good. but if you are droping a cliff and think you might collapse so there is some face on knee action, then go for it, it could save you alot of pain.

someone explain how mouth guards lessen the risk of a concussion. correct me if im wrong, but you get concussions from hitting your head on something, i dont see how a mouth guard prevents that..

I wish I had of been wear a mouth guard when I busted one of my teeth out trying a 270 onto a rail. It sucks $3000 to get it fix too and my employer won't pay for it.

Mouthguards provide protection to the athlete in three different ways. Mouthguards protect against concussions by serving as a shock absorber, they protect against neck injuries, and they protect the teeth by distributing the force of a blow over all the teeth and diminishing contact between the mandible (lower jaw) and the maxilla (upper jaw). The most important function of the mouthguard is in the prevention of concussions and brain injuries (Witzig, 1992). A mouthguard with the proper thickness of 3 to 5 mm between the teeth can reduce the rate of concussion by preventing the condyle (lower jaw hinge) from being forced into the base of the brain (temporal bone) at impact. Ninety five percent of all football concussions are transmitted through the mandible to the brain (Witzig, 1992). The use of mouthguards should be encouraged in all contact sports as the most important value of the mouthguard is the concussion saving effect following impact to the mandible (Stenger, 1964).

i really dont think they prevent concussions since a concussion is caused from head trauma.

mouthguards work. I have a one that I hadn't bothered using this season, but I'm definitely grabbing it next season and shoving it in at all times.

i would never ski with a mouthpeice in unless i was seth-esque dropping 80 footers. i don't really see a need for it. it would be so uncomfortable to be skiing in. why don't you just where shoulder pads and a bullet proof vest while you're at it?

Have you ever dropped a 45 footer and get a nice mouthful of KNEE!!!! That is why i wear it when i drop cliffs..I don't ski with it all the time, that would be pointless..just in situations where i feel breaking my teeth could possibly happen ..again, which belive me you do not want to happen to you..

banging your teeth sucks... but i won't be dropping that big of cliffs unless there is enough snow that i won't get hurt anyway. i understand putting one in for dropping cliffs, but it seems like wearing one for any other reason is much to precautionary (is that a word? probably cautious is what i meant to say.). it would be like people wearing a cup in the park all day because they were scared of nutting on rails.

have you ever used a mouth guard extensively before? they arent that uncomfortable and you get used to them pretty quick. You can get a custom one at your dentist for relatively cheap too.
