Earth to retarded potheads: Just because you saw the movie doesn't make you an instant intellectual and doesn't suddenly make you deeper than other people. Especially if you even know where the arguments came from. Or how to apply them.

And you're not cool because you've set it to repeat in your house on your VCR. It also doesn't give you the right to suddenly wear a tweed goddamn blazer and a scarf. You will work 7-11 for the rest of your life. Congratulations. I hope your vintage converse sneakers and fake horn-rims are solace enought that you won't cry when that 17 year old girl beats you in Logicism 101.

I agree to an extent... However i am probably going to end up taking a lot of philosophy courses my first year in university, and i did enjoy waking life... However, I am genuinely very interested in the universe as a whole and hopefully will also be taking a some astrology course too, along with English and maybe some film stuff if i can.

Anyways, point being, whilst there are annoying poser "deep" kids who think theyre intellectuals who take philosophy majors, it doesnt mean taking philosophy is a bad idea nor does it make you a douche.
Just clarifying my view on the subject.

right, but why let it bother you? it's not like pseudo-intellectuals are doing anyone harm by entertaining ideas they heard in a movie... but you've got beef even with people who understand the concepts being put forth therein, and claim that the concepts aren't deep, or can't lead to being deep...something along those lines...in any case let it go, your rant sounds dumber than any hipster would  talking about the movie

At least these posts are passably written and grammatically correct in general. That already puts them head and shoulders above most of what's in NSG.

PS You will find a lot of douchebags in Phil, but far more of them in Poli Sci.

I suggest if you want to study real things you take astronomy instead of astrology, wich is nothing, really. And I agree with the fact that its not the courses you take that make who you are. It's what you do with them.

Arabian, I first thought you were just another forum whore trying to chase people away, but now I am getting it, especially with this thread.  I got a degree in Philosophy, medieval metaphysics to be precise, and it absolutely gags me when a ninety minute movie, which I hated, turns everyone into a coffee shop Bertrand Russell.   I used to joke that when I got my fine degree in Philosophy, the public transit in Vancouver BC only charged me $2 to ride, and everyone else, get this, was paying $1.  Wasn't I fucking special.  Four years and 144 semester credits  and a 3.8 GPA and one would think I had a grasp on it, but thirty years later I still scratch my head.    If anyone wants to fight with this tiger (truth and reality) and I mean really grapple with it, read Geroge Bernanos "The Diary of a Country Priest". (Bantam 1937)  Now there was a guy who had his doubts.
