I'm just curious as to people's opinions on this. Obviously right now its insanely popular with stuff like Facebook and Twitter but its hard to say. I'm leaning towards a fad...Post your thoughts

I think certain sites are fads (see: myspace) and will come and go over time but i think social-networking as a whole is here to stay.

No, "social networking" isnt a fad, but sites like facebook and twitter (hopefully twitter goes quick....) will eventually fade away and go the way of myspace and crap, and then some new site will come and dominate for a while, then it'l start all over again.
Although I find the whole concept in it current state pretty stupid.

i don't think twitter is gonna go as fast as you are all hoping. i'm an intern at a certain company in pittsburgh and we (marketing) have meetings just on social networking. it's all about twitter. i stopped going to the meetings lol but it's pretty big if you're not just some random kid posting the fact that you're brushing your teeth. i follow a few bars in my city too and i've seen tweets like "say 'tweet tweet' at the door and get half off cover charge" stuff like that.
but there is SO much technical shit that makes twitter so fucking complicated to use in its full capacity in my opinion. i don't like it personally, but i'm not an important person right now.
but then again, twitter would be pointless if the general population decided to stop.

I wish but in a country that obsesses over celebrities i doubt it will go anytime soon. I mean how easy is it to nowadays stalk your favorite celeb through twitter, the mass population eats that shit up all day everyday.

I think that if a site is very general It will slowly fade away (myspace) , But a site that targets a specific interest or way of life will just keep getting stronger(NS)

twitter is a fad.
facebook will be around a while.
myspace is jsut about music.
i think we will see more social networking sites going the way of finding jobs and networking relating with careers instead of posting pictures of that sick keg stand you did.

The websites themselves are somewhat of a fad, but social-networking as a whole is here to stay.
