Heeeeey NS, i need your help on a n00b question.

I just got started park skiing this past season and now that the end of summer is almost upon us it is time to get off my crappy old skis and buy some new ones!

Since i have a fairly low budget, i was kind of leaning towards getting a pair of the new silencers. My first question is, will these skis hold me back as i progress more and more? My second question, what size to get? I am somewhere around five foot five to five foot seven and like 115lbs. The silencers come in 149, 159, 169, 179.

Ok third question, ill probably get some hate for this one...
Where should i get them mounted? I know that everyone is going to say CENTER MOUNTED DUH NOOB but some of my frans i ski with reeeeeally suck at park so we ski groomers a ton. Will it greatly hurt my park skiing if i get them mounted a lil back? How far?

if your set on the silencers then i would go 169 sounds like your about the right hieght for them and if you plan to ride them not only in the park i would get them mounted just back from center so that you can ski alittle more all mountain when you go to get them mounted tell the shop what you ski and what they think usually the guys are more than willing to help you out and will get it perfect for you, hope somthing i said helped and have great season o also look at line they have alot of skis right around 300 bucks or www.333skis.com too you can make your own ski just a couple ideas to check out

1. I would stay away from silencers. Every pair that I've ridden has broken real fast. Check out next years line mastermind. Described as a "price point all mountain ski"
2.169 sounds about right for you. I made the mistake of getting small skis, and I regret it 100%. It might be harder at first to ski on long skis, but once you get used to them, it opens up a lot more riding options.
3.If you were to get the silencers, I would mount them 1-2 cm back from centre.

Silencers are an entry level ski, there wont be anything wrong with buying them if you have a low budget. Your fairly light so breaking them is going to be tough.

You say you ski groomers? then do not center mount the skis, this will take away all ability to flex the ski to its capacity. Dont get a symmetrical ski i.e invader if you want to ski groomers as well, they wont work very well.

as for skis? my sudgesstions would be line chronics, volki walls, k2 extreme just to name a few

you said dont go symmetrical if you want to ski groomers and you recommended the walls, which are 100% symmetrical..however they are one of the best symmetrical carving skis..

another ski to look at is the ar6, but could be out of your price range.

I definitely wouldn't get the SIlencers, whats your budget? It would be easier to recommend skis for you knowing that.

im going to say go with the centermount if your just riding groomers not powder...and maybe check the kung fujas

I meant bridge, my bad.

And there's no such thing as a good carving symmetrical ski. Maybe the best carving yes, but none of them carve well at all

beginning skiing or beginning park?

if youre beginning park i would say go with the silencers in a 169. the silencers are an imtermediate ski, so itll be softer, but the sidecut is the same as that of the old public enemies which were labeled as an all mountain twin tip. the skis are light and have plenty of pop, and will do great with a new park rider.
if you want to save a few bucks, look at 08/09 instead of '10 models.

for mounting, 2-3 centimeters back from center will work well for you. 2 back if youre planning on getting better at park and carving switch. then eventually moving on to a true park ski after the silencers. and 3 back if you plan on just being able to do stuff in the park without looking like a fool on carving skis and actually spend most of your time on the rest of the mountain.

i wouldn't recommend the bridge to him.

invaders are cheap as all hell, and pretty fun. you can carve them just fine too, even though theyre symmetrical, once you find the balance point you're dialed.
but then you'll hit some rails, and have no edge, soooo basically, get invaders.

in the size thats closest to 170, i think its 169

yeah, more i thought more i shouldnt have said that. but those are the only two that i could think of that i would enjoy riding in that situation...
