Wood Sealer or water repelent

Does anyone treat their setup so it doesn't rot out or warp? I was thinking about using like polyeuratane (sp?) but im not sure it its necesarry. any suggestions?

for rotting, just paint it.

just go to your lcvoal hardware store and just get a waterproof stain.   the ones for decks work the best
