Marker Griffon or Jester

Not sure which one to get.

will be mounting them up with armada ar6's

i only weigh 110 pounds and im an aggresive skier that does 50% park and 50% groomers, hardpacked

just scared of the griffons breaking (but its not like im hucking cliffs or anything) so i looked at the jesters and they said that one needs to be over 130 pounds to ride...

my din is at around 6 or so..i think?

it may go up to 7 or 8

bindings are some shitty old solly

also another question..its about the ar6's

regarding my size and wieght, i wanted a playful ski that i could jib around with and butter, with this be possible with the ar6? i know i already have the ski and everything but im just curious

AR6s will be fine.  Don't get Griffons or Jesters, but if you have to get one get Jesters.  Get  S912 or s914s,STH 14s or 12s, Tyrolia Peak 12s or 15s, Head/Tyrolia Mojo 12s/14s any of the past few years, Tyrolia FF series 11 or 12, or a handfull of other before Jesters.  I have skied every binding I just said(or at least one is that series, as in STH 14 but not 12).  I would say FKS 120 but they are a bit heavy, and I think that other lighter bindings are going to be just as good or better for you.

Are fucking serious?  His DIN is 6 and HE WEIGHS 110 POUNDS.  Do every living skier a favor and NEVER give advice again before you kill someone or their knees.

When they first came out I was skeptical just because Marker had a bad rep with bindings at the time, and then I watch a bunch of the new bindings tear in half when my friends picked them up.  I'm not so much against them anymore, but they cost quite a bit when I can still find FKS 185s around.

The kids that dislike them are the kids that have never used them or had issues with other, old, previous Marker bindings.  The Royal family line of bindings is my favorite line out there right now.  I always feel popped in, they are easy to get out of, durable, light, good looking.  I have Griffons on my Hellbents and I have dropped big cliffs and charged pillow lines and they held up just fine.  I am 125.  Jesters/Griffons also have a good bolt pattern.  Griffons do not break easy, it's just kids on here flaming the binding, I have never seen a single thread on here with someone asking about a warranty for a broken Royal Family binding.  Get the Griffon and you will be stoked.  It is the perfect binding for you.

Not flaming the binding, but I watched a kid land awkwardly on a 5 foot jump at Keystone last November and his heel piece shattered.  Jesters.  I'm just saying they aren't a miracle binding, and they don't impress me as much as FKS.

The AR6 is an awesome, durable, versatile park ski.  No worries with that ski.

others might disagree, but i think the ar6 is fairly stiff, not very stiff, but moderately stiff. i way 155 and am 6"1 and i can hardly butter my ar6 (in 181) only if i lean very much too the front , my tails go up a little. it is a solid ski, with which you can charge and which handles the groomers well, but it is not playful in regard to buttering IMO

you might want to consider the afterbangs for butetring, or the anthems, which are softer skis

the griffons will be fine for sure, and you said that you have old shitty sollies so the din might change? false.
din settings are the same in all bindings, its just how they release that makes salomons shitty. imo of course.

and about the ar6's... the real question you should be asking is 'how hard will it be to butter these?' because really, with the right technique anyone can make any sky flex and butter. how stiff do they feel? if they feel stiff, theyll take a bit more effort.

im pretty sure that i have seen people butter pretty easily on ar6's though.

I am 150 lb and I have griffons.  I didn't need jesters.. I have not used them yet but I don't think I will have any problems.  You weigh 110, you do not need some high din binding because it is "cool".  Don't crank up your din, have fun sitting on a couch with a machine that moves your leg after you get your acl fixed for 8 hours a day.

That's weird.  I guess there's always lemons in any product though, correct?  My friend has the OG Jesters, skied them 100+ times, full days, and skied them HARD.  He is so rough on his gear and so far the bindings are doing just fine.

my buddies jesters were trashed after a 85 or so day season, and i saw a kid drop a pair of griffons in my shop once and the heal piece cracked in like 9 places

fks 120s for sure, 1000000 times better

That's so weird though dude, because at my local shop they have never had one single issue with Griffons/Jesters and they were the most popular binding sold.  All of my friends have them and no issues at all, we are all pretty hard on out gear too.  I guess some pairs are really good and others aren't so good.

You should be fine.  When I flexed the AR6 in my shop it actually felt really nice.  Soft, but not too soft.  They were not as stiff as everyone seemed to say.

i think the ar6 is a pretty medium flexing ski, its softer than it is stiff.

you should be able to butter nicely

you mean like the toe height adjustment with Jesters, where there is too much space for the toe part of some people boots, and Marker says "just put some paper under your boot toe to keep it in well."  That probably has nice edge to edge feel.  Or maby the broken mounting piece on dukes, or the loose toe adjustment on dukes that can't be fixed in some cases.  Or the tour mode lever on dukes not going down all the way and getting bent.  I will say Dukes are the only touring bindings atm that I will use, but that is because freerides suck much more and I need something that I can use alpine boots in most of the time.

Never heard of any of those problems.  NEVER.  A guy that used to work in my local shop rocked Dukes on his skis, knew his shit and loved the Marker Royal Family line of bindings.  The guy has skied his whole life, used all different products and the Royal Family was his favorite.  He has Dukes and Jesters.  That is the first time I have heard of any of those issues.

Jesters are great bindings I loved them when they weren't broken, then I cracked a pair just carving switch. I now ride only all metal bindings.

it just seems that there is alot of freak incidents that happen with the marker griffon/ jester binding.

ive also heard from people that they sometimes wont hold you in when doing a butter or press?

I have two pairs of Jester and I have never had a single problem. My dad has Griffons, same story. I am not saying there is no problems, but for me they have been reliable, light and durable bindings.

Bump... again, sorry for all the seemingly useless bumps today, I'm trying to make too many decisions at once.

Anyway, I'm getting 179cm Hellbents. I'm trying to decide between Jesters and Griffons. I'm 5'9"-5'10", weigh between 145-150 lbs. and my BSL is 315mm. Definitely a Type III skier. I'm just kind of looking for some input... by either owners of the gear in question or qualified shop techs only please.

And to everyone about, I have never heard of a SINGLE problems with the jesters or griffons. I skiied 65 days HARD on my griffons and the only thing that happened to them was the bakes got bent out of whack really badly, but bindings on all binders do that

we have 3 pairs of griffons on Armadas in the family and we got no failures...worked out great.
