Is This The Right Mac For Me?

Mac Book Pro

13-inch : 2.53GHz

Memory - 4GB (included)

Hard Drive - 500GB (add $135)

AppleCare Protection Plan - 3 year support (add $183)

Total $1717

I'll be using it at school. Never owned a Mac but i've used them multiple times before. Will a 13" screen be too small? Hows the memory and hard drive looking? Do I need the applecare? I'm buying this on my own so I'm trying to keep it as cheap as possible but i want something ill like and be able to use for awhile. Any suggestions would help, something cheaper or something I'm lacking... thanks

I think what he meant was that a TV doesnt have even close to the resolution of a monitor, (unless you've got a fancy 1080p beast)

this is true. whether you spend 2000 or 500, it's gonna average out to about 2-3 years. you may as well spend $500 and get a new one every 3 years, than $2000 and try and make it last 5 (or 12), because it won't. you know it.

false. i thought the same thing when i bought mine, and its getting pretty damn full pretty damn quick. especially with editing (gotta store all that footage), and the increasing amount of HD video out there 500 gb is actually quite small.

now granted you COULD buy an external HD (or rather a second since id hope youll get a backup drive) but i personally would rather have the storage in the computer.

I just want to add, if you are going to school and are using it to type up papers.  Make sure you get Mircosoft Word for Mac.  it will be impossable without it.

i currently have a 320gb external usb cord tho. should be alright for awhile. anyone know how to get the student discount on a refurb?
