i went to park city and was stoked to water ramp, turns out i totally blow, at the water ramps. now my question to you is... how valuable is the skill of water ramping? should i take it with a grain of salt, and know that i'm not THAT bad on real snow jumps? or should i take another wack at it? or should i kill myself (it was that bad).
Sounds like it was your first time or you don't do it a lot? Just relax. It was a new experience and you will get better. It just takes practice and confidence. I hear they can be tricky to spin off of but I don't know for sure because I haven't done them yet. I don't think anybody is bad because everybody is learning. Even the pros. So you're fine and stop stressing.
yaaa keep tryin
when i first went i got sucked under the water and almost under the stairs till someone pulled me out
and I didnt want to do it again
i went the next summer and when i was doing corks i was sliping off the lips and what not
just takes practice
werd that was also another hidden question in my OP, was the correlation betwixt snow and ramps. but thanks all for the input, sorry for my escapade of attention whoring, but i was just curious what others thought on the topic. anyway, the tramps at the olympic park are sooooo epic, i guess it was a good day overall.
Ramps are the hardest way to do tricks. This therefore makes them good training.
Don't worry too much if you suck at ramps, but if you can get some instruction and figure out whats wrong it will help you on snow. And then you can learn crazy shit like doubles once you've got the basics down.
Details: What about the water ramp experience didn't work? What were you having problems with? Anything you can offer up is helpful to me and my efforts to build the best water ramp facility anywhere.
I was very frustrated on the ramps at first, especially since I wasn't on a freestyle team and had tons of bad habits. I was disapointed that I wasn't learning new tricks every jump, but slowly its made me a much better skier, not so much on learning insane tricks but more correcting my bad habits and giving me much more air awareness.
just give it time man it takes awhile to get used to water ramps i've been fortunate enough to be able to water ramp a lot and i get to train at an awesoome facility only an hour away from me (ohio dreams)
when i first started on water ramps it was strictly to get upside down awareness and maybe try to learn a rodeo...my first time was in whistler and it was hell hhaa never wanted to do it again ate shit, lost skis, broke skis ,etc...
this past week though we've been ramping a lot and being comfortable on teh ramps helps so much...i've learned a couple dubs and a few other tricks so definately give it another shot you'll see more progression i think each time
water ramps are pretty sketch, they're hard to set stuff off of and it's easy to get whipped on the transitions. They're helpful but they take some getting used to. It's not the end of the world if you aren't great at them, and chances are if you go a few more times you'll get more used to them
I feel like you just get comfortable with them after you just force yourself to. It takes time, but they also suck because you get use to going strait into jumps where as on snow you should be carving your balls off cuz thats the illinest way to do it.
