Is this an isolated incident, or just the tip of the iceberg? Fielding an F1 team is expensive as hell, and major car producers like BMW might have trouble justifying such an extravagance in these Trying Times in the auto industry. I could also see Toyota and Renault going this way, as they are the other two large-scale manufacturers involved in F1.
The smaller builders might stick around, but what they lack in advertising rational for backing out of F1, they more than make up for in the dubious and inconsistent nature of their revenue streams. Who knows? Losing a major player like BMW could mean curtains for the whole shebang.
