MothaHuckerBump, thinking about signing up for this summer. Anyone else down?
Dubsman35you actually have to prove your jewish, like have a rabbi sign something i think. they just don't want non jews taking advantage of them, its alright if your not religious
theBearJewDo it! It's awesome. If you can wait till you are old enough to go, appreciate it all, and extend. But don't stay in Israel. Extend, travel through Europe, fly back to Israel, then go home.
I did that, saved like $2,000 on flights. Spent over 2 months traveling around Israel and Europe.
My GF staffed an Israel Outdoors trip. Said it was super awesome, I feel like NSers would enjoy the outdoor trip more than just the normal one. Tons of hikes and other awesome stuff. Look into it.

theabortionatorDamn, I was gonna go.
That said I've had a few friends go. I think they had a good time.
theabortionatorThat's the way to do it. Know people who did the same thing as well. Flying across the ocean is the pricey part. IF you can skip that you can kill it.
theBearJewDo you have any Jewish relatives? My friend who's dad is Jewish but never celebrated anything Jewish in his life went on birthright with us. You have to at least have a relative that is Jewish I think.
And yes I can't stress it enough, highly recommended. Backpack around Europe after the trip. Plus everyone on your trip will think you're the coolest kid ever cause after Israel, you aren't done.

MothaHuckerI was initially thinking of extending and traveling through turkey and the mediterranean region or up into eastern europe, but logistically I don't think I have the money or time considering I'll be working full time in the summer and I only have a small gap between when work ends and when I have to return to school
KreechI can't be the only one who thinks it's absolutely retarded that jewish people from the United States who don't know jack shit about the Middle East can get a free fucking trip to Israel just because they want to take an exotic vacation while Palestinians who were born there can't even drive a few miles to cross the border....

no_steezeYes it's totally fucked but at least the program encourages American kids go to check out some new shit that might open their eyes a little bit
I wish i could go, I've been trying to convince my girlfriend to go since her mom is jewish but she wants to go travel europe together instead. Maybe i can find a way into the program, i think my great grandmother was jewish

ghosthopread up on it, its to create pro-israel sentiment in the west, there's a reason you see all these posts of people saying how great a time they had. Its the same way that israel advertises holy land trips in the bible belt, they need american $$ and support, all expenses paid vacations tend to sway people's minds.
to anyone thinking about taking advantage of this, do some reading and form your own opinions. Think about what you're accepting when you go on a free trip called "birthright"
KreechOh I'm perfectly aware of the reasons behind why Israelis sponsor trips like this, I'm just saying that it's fucked up that they don't let Palestinian civilians in who were born there but were kicked out of their homes....
KravtZMy entire family has been on birthright / studied abroad there / vacation I refuse to go. They always tell me how safe it is , etc. I could care less that its a free trip which is supposedly pretty fun. NOTHING in life is free for one. Food/drinks/going out will cost a fair amount I assume not to mention the time cost of me just leaving work for 10 days.
My whole thing is that why would I voluntarily travel to one of the most dangerous regions of the world. Conflict can just explode there in hours. My sister was there and saw the iron dome rockets firing off. You know what...if Im going to take 10 days off from work I can think of a lot beter places I would rather go then the desert....skiing or one of those sick all inclusive tropical resorts sounds a whole hell of a lot better and free of terrorists.
