i know what you mean, in skiing, whenever i think something is to knarly i just hit it. Even when i'm about to do something excessively stupid, things usually never go as bad as i thought.
When i'm not skiing i start to think about things. Its become a huge part of my personality to over-think things, to find some sorta meaning in everything. Sometimes its good, but a lotta times, opportunities with girls just decompose while i'm just thinkn about it.

yeah i'll pretty much try anything once. if you don't have any positive or negative reinforcement then it isn't to had to try something new. It's after you fail bad that its hard to get going again

yeah, earlier this year i smashed my face on a 3. Got a really bad bloody nose and my face was scratched pretty good. My bottom lip was so swelled that it could touch the top lip when my mouth was open. It was a real low period after that. Then one day after doing countless 180's, i was like fuck it, i'm learning 3's again. I did, then the next time i went i got them down really nicely. Then I was standing at the top of the run looking at this jump and this kid was like, do you a 5. My friend went first and did one because he did them before. I looked at the jump and started shitting bricks. Then I went and tried it, fucked up because my friend told me not to crouch, but that just threw my spin off. Then i went again and tried again all crouched and did it..then did it 2 more times after that. It's sweet.

Agreed that willpower makes you a lot better and confident. Two weeks ago I was only doing 180s and 360s on jumps, then i said what the hell and I tried 540, and almost got it. Then I got too confident and broke my collarbone and dislocated my elbow when I tried again. So dont get overconfident either.

Same here.

I took some hard falls learning corks, and it scared me away from them. Then about 2 weeks later, Im just like 'what the hell' and threw it. Stomped the first time, and did about 10 in a row without falling.

I couldn't agree more. In life in general, I way over analyze things and think about things too much. Especially like socially with girls and stuff, the more you think about it the more you think of the negative outcomes, because for me I IDK why but i have very high confidence, then later i found out the girl was expecting me to do something and i didn't . Just do shit and worry about it later. Skiing too, just huck it, and thats how you progress, not by putting it off, and being scared about it.

in the last year i've really been working on making myself a realyl confident person, on and off the hill, then if i come into a new trick with a cocky attitude i throw down no problem.
of course this method might not work for everyone

haha today for the first time I spun off a reasonably large jump for me something around 35 feet. I was hitting the smaller jump next to it and then I decided i might as well go for the big one and I psyched myself up and then after a few straight airs I realised it was way more fun and then I started doing 180s over it and then some 3s and everything felt so much better going bigger, and now Im way less scared of big jumps. I also didnt think about it much, I just did it, but it wasnt anything crazy.

This post is so true. If you just go for things it usually works out better then you'd think it would. Skiing has affected my life in so many ways. Especially i nthe confidence departement.

When i was learning 3's i didnt land like the first 20 of them. one atempt in priticular stands out because i got 180 but stoped looking over my shoulder, landed switch but my right pole stuck into thr ground getting its self bent 45 degrees and tearing my rotator cuff. after that i didnt try again for a month, untill one day i was like, i can do this, it isnt that hard and i started tohuck them again. I nailed it soon after and then ever since throwing a 3 is like second nature. but if i had never been like, 'fuck it' i wouldnt have gotten over the fear of injury. just hucking works wonders. and 99% of the time you wont hurt yourself, espically if your not trying somthing for the first time off a 40 foot table. just go for it. on a semi related note, helmets give you confidence, but they dont make you invincibal.

Why does everyone have such a hard time with 3's? I landed my first one on my first try, and I'm not some exceptional skier or anything.

I had no problem learning them. I did lose my spin once, but I got over it and learned 5's too.

You get identical results from skiing and girls. If you just fucking go for it, good things happen.

My modo: If you TRY it, and fuck up, at least you tried it. If you DONT try it, you will regret it and look like a shithead. If you TRY it, and DO it, and succeed, then you can continue to do it for as long as you live. That was my modo for skiing and mountain biking. :)

yeah sometimes i just look down the hill and see that jump i scare the hell out of myself. but then i just do it and like said before for 99% it works out fine. i think i'm gonna do it the same way with this girl i like...
