Quick question...or maybe not.

Alrighty, I know that ya'll are probably pretty sick of kids asking what ski to get and so on...but here I go. I'm stuck on this. I'm looking to get an upgrade from the 720 (not a bad ski, I'm just looking for better...and a bit longer). I was looking at the Seth Pistols in a 169, but thought they might be too heavy for me, or too big. To start off, I only weigh around 100lbs (and about 5'4'' tall), but I'm a pretty aggressive skier, and ski just about everywhere on my mountain. I just want an opinion. I don't care if it's this year's model or a model from a year ago as long as the quality is good. Again, I just want an opinion about what ski and maybe a short reason to go along with that.

Seth pistols in 169 is pointless. I don't even know why they make them that length. Since you're light, I reccomend either Scratch FS 174, which will work all over the mountain especially for someone of your weight, or possibly TMs in whatever length you think is good for you. Of course, you could just upgrade a 360 and go with 1080s; normally I'd say foam core is bad, but you weigh nothing so I don't think it'd break down as quickly. My thoughts.

you might want to look at 170 4frnts too, smaller widthwise than the pistols and cheaper (new at least) as well. it's burly that you want such a beefy ski, and if you ski hard you'll like them a lot....i haven't skied pistols so i can't give you any advice on those, but with your size even the 171 1080s would be fine for you.....i weigh almost twice as much as you, and the 181's only gave me trouble at high speeds on hard snow. yah.

the thing about getting something as long as a 174 is that 1. my dad doesn't think that I should have skis longer that 150cm (even 165 is really pushing it according to him), 2. I don't think I'd be able to ski as well on that long of a ski.

Well you can get 168 scratches if you want, I just always promote longer skis. THose would still work really well on the groomed. If you ski a lot of ice, maybe not. Strode made a good point, 170 msps would be good...how heavy are they? I'm not too sure. I was thinking of lighter skis, for which scratches or 1080s would be really good. Or Lines, if you wait till next year you could get some 167 Chronics, that would be boss.

they are 150s, and I mainly just don't like how short they are to me.

Yeah that's too short for anybody. Definitely move up to at least 165-170. It'll make a huge difference.

oh, what I like about them too..as an improvement from my old skis (which weigh maybe 1/2 a pound each), I think anything could be better than those, including the 720s. I've noticed though, that my edges catch more easily, even though I tune them fairly often.

my 4frnt setup weighs exactly the same as my fischer setup.....and when i skied 1080s they had demo bindings so they were extra heavy, but they are surprisingly lightweight. the dad has 180 scream 10 pilots and his weight a lot more than mine do

i find that its mostly hte binding that make the stuff heavier. i got the salomon s810 TIs. so nice

well, they were junior race skis, but yeah, bindings do make a difference in weight.

i wouldn't go over 165... you're really light for anything longer. you could go with 165 TM's or 165 AR5's, good for park and all mountain. or get the 160 4FRNT MSP... the length will keep you're dad happy, and the fact that they are wide and stiff means they will ski longer.

Ok, people are gonna shit on me for saying this, and maybe deservedly so, but you're pretty small, so you should perhaps consider a Pocket Rocket in a 165. Length is good, I believe it'll be ok flex wise, due to your light weight, and it's super light. It's pretty good in the park, good in pow, and surprisingly decent on the groomed. Might be a little wide for pipe, but you'll be able to get used to it.

The other guys were right on with their recommendations as well, so they're all worth checking out. I'm gonna stress how important demoing all of them would be, but you already know that.

I'd go with nothing longer than a 165. I'm close to your size. (5'7 1/2' 115-120 depending on when I ate last,) and a 165 is perfect for me. 174s are going to be increadibly long. You could probably adapt to ski them, but I personally like a shorter ski. I ski steep moguls and spend alot of time in lift lines (it's the east and my hill has 500 vert) and I love having a ski I can just crank around anywhere. With your weight, something like a 158 would be best, and you're still gonna float in POW every chance you get.

I may have to go with the newbie on this one. You could ride a 174 scratch, but it wouldn't be fun. A 163 Mad Trix would be pretty good for you. Good size that your float in pow, but be able to rip everything else and the park.

well if you're an aggresive skier, maybe you do wanrt a long ski
do your 720's feel like snowblades on you? you really know best about your length prefs, but i would recomend 165 TM's, they're nasty all over the mountain and great in the park, i think they'd be really good for you

don't go over about 165. 165 tm's or 159 pe's would be nice depending on your liking. you could handel either one

go w/ 159 pe or TM 165. The top sheet of the TM will scratch easily. The PE is very durable.
I've heard lots of good thing about these skis. But some ppl reported the pivet popped out of the 04/05 PE, but it rarely happened. Good luck

I'm 5'4 and 110lbs. and I sport the 159 PE they are great not to long but not to short. Get the PE or the Truble Maker.. I wouldn't go any bigger than 165 if I were you.

thanks! I think I'm going to try and demo some skis before I make my decision. PE, TM, mad trix, and 4FRNT if I can.

Thats the best thing you can do...


And dont try and judge the skis you want by the weight of the demo skis, because if they have demo bindings on them they are all going to be hella heavy.

remember: K2s in 169 really ski at about 165, so you can safely consider either a PE 169, a Seth Pistol, or, if park is really the only thing you ride, a Fujative.

^typo (probably) the *159* is about a 165... the K2's are a bit longer than they say. PE's come in a 159. Pistols do not.

im about 5'4',120 pounds and i ride the 165 tm's sick ski. i think i could handle the 175's though. i guess its all preference but longer is more stable at high speeds aND just an all around smoother ride. all suggestions so far are good but deffinatly look into the tm's great all around and have great pop. good luck

I disagree...the felt long when I demo'ed em. The 169 Pistols are around 174. The are ski noticably longer then the 172 Mo'ship....although that may because the Pistols are a little stiffer.

if you really want a light ass ski get the Mike Nicks but they only come in 171, I tried my friends and they were the lightest things ever.
