Help with Audacity.

Can anyone help me with the program audacity? I need to crop a part of a song down and I was told this was the best/easiest/most effective program.

I imported my audio track but the audio keeps being stretched without me even telling it to. I thought this was just so I could hear the parts of the song better and it would be back to normal speed when I saved it. When I save the file it asked me to get LAME, I got it, but when I try to play my cropped, exported audio file it's still really stretched out. Like I'm listening to it in Slo-mo.

Can anyone help? I know this is kind of a stretch.

You mean the pitch when down? Do you notice a change in key? Any audio artefacts? Like glitchy noise?
You import your audio from what format?

No. Damn this is hard to explain. I imported the audio in mp3 format.

What happened is that the song is just stretched. The song I'm trying to crop is 2:41 but when I import it, the song is stretched to 5:30 in length and it sounds really slow.. Is this standard and something I'm doing is wrong?

Had the same problem, while trying to normalize audio

Use another program, like Acid Pro, easy to find on torrents. It's good and simple if you only want to chop up audio and mash up stuff. Might wanna try Adobe Audtion too.

Thanks for the help. I tried another song for the hell of it and for some reason it was the particular file I wanted that was messed up.

There's a "Normalize" option in Audacity. It will raise the gain of the audio, preserving the peaks and lows.
