Bussing Tables

Alright, so I am a busser at a resturaunt on Lake George in NY. Minimum wage is something like 7.50 or something like that but i get paid 4.50 an hour because i get 10% of all the servers tips. After asking around a little bit i have heard that a few resturaunts pay their bussers way more than me. and some even get paid minimum wage. I was just wondering if there were anybussers out there on ns. If so, how much do you guys get paid compared to both minimum wage and compared to the other servers.

sparknotes: If you bus tables at a resturaunt, how much do you get paid an hour???

well when i used to bus tables i would get minimum wage plus a cash amount of money that came from the waiters and waitresses 15 percent they tipped out of each night. so when i stopped busing and became a waiter i was making 10.50 an hour or w/e cause it was 3 dollars cash per hour. what i came to find out was this is probably less than what you would probably make with the 10% or w/e. but at least it was consistent. my situation was fucked but it worked out after 4 years since i became a waiter this summer, and now i make BANK. anyway just stay with it if there is a chance that you may become a waiter

minimum wage, because you get a tipshare is like 3.83 i think, or it used to be.  But when I bussed i made a few bucks more an hour than that and ended up making 10+ dollars an hour.  if your not making at least minimum wage, the 7 dollar one, then you need to talk to your boss because that IS illegal.  And if you get any crap, sue there ass haha

Yea the only reason i am still in this restaurant is because i am going to become a waiter. There have deff been some slow days where i havent gotten minimum wage with my tips and stuff so im deff going to talk to them about that. Thanks a lot and if anyone else is a busser please share how much u got paid hourly. I am thinking about confronting them about the whole situation because i feel like i am going to get ripped off.

Bussers at the restaurant I work at get the same as you, $4.50 + 10% of what I make.

Good plan, and seriously i know its kind of a dick move but if they give you any crap at all remind them that it is the law.  But be careful because they might try to make a deal where you get paid 7.02 or whatever an hour without tips which might be worse overall.  Just look at you paycheck and divide the pre taxed amount by the amount of hours you work and if its less than min wage definitely talk to them

How much money in tips are you making? Every restaurant varies but 4.60 for a busser is a little low...It's usually at least 6.50 + 10$.

I am from saratoga springs and I will be making bank this track season...I'm a waiter at the track making 8.50 an hour plus rediculous tips, then bussing at a 5 star restaurant at night making 6.50 an hour, and I'll be a waiter at the 5 star place on Saturdays (The only reason I am bussing is because I will be arriving too late after my day job to be a server, and I have saturdays off)

If I calculated this correctly I should be making approximately 500-600 a day

I work at a Denny's Restaurant. I got hired as a hostess but really just do a lot of bussing.  It sucks big time, I get minimum which is $8.90 an hour and I'm supposed to get a tip out every month that works out to like 15 bucks or something.  I haven't got one yet even though I've been there over 3 months. I also think you're getting ripped off.

id say try and become a waiter at a restaurant where u keep all ur tips. i been waiting tables at a big boy since i was 17. i make 3.65 per hour and usually $10-$13 per hour in tips. since BB pays its bussers like 8ish an hour we dont share tips and its awesome. prob gross about $400 in a 30hr work week

i work at lou malnatis and i food run i make 7 an hour plus i get tipped out by the servers for helping them i work from 5-9 and i end up making 100 in tips along and then like 20 from my hours so i end up at around 30 an hour.. and it s all cash...

Well it also has to do with the caliber of the restaurant. It makes sense that you would get a smaller wage at a high end restaurant when the servers are taking in $150-$250 a night....you're being tipped on 10% of that. Whereas if its lower end and the server is making maybe $100.

I forget what I used to make, but when I figured in my tips at the end of the night (usually around $55-60, from 4 waitresses), my hourly wage was about $15/hour. The next time you work, try figuring that out.

Bussed tables for 4 years, all through high school, made the same as you 4.50 plus tips but tips weren't bad, normally came out to around 10 bucks an hour on average
